Reporting to the Manager of Inventory, the inventory officer develops the plans and parameters in order to properly manage the lifecycle of components of VIA's rolling stock inventory ensuring optimal turnover and timely availability of parts for the maintenance of VIA's fleet.
Responsibilities
- Establishes replenishment parameters taking into consideration the life cycle of components, their supply and reorder lead times, and economical order quantities with the objective of achieving optimum inventory turnover while ensuring availability of parts. Establishes and monitors the inventory of high value, critical parts, dangerous goods required for the operations such as wheels, traction motors, etc.
- Works very closely with internal departments such as Engineering, Planning, and Projects groups. Participates in the daily production meetings and identifies solutions to problems or situations that are brought to the group's attention.
- Monitors and works with suppliers to ensure compliance with VIA's specifications in terms of quality, lead time, and packaging according to operational needs. Provides timely feedback to Procurement and identifies acceptable remedial measures to ensure continuity of supply.
- Identifies material that is no longer required and recommends the appropriate action for disposal. Executes warranty management of parts as per established strategy as well as non-conformance.
Requirements
- Diploma in administration, supply chain, logistics, or inventory management.
- Minimum of 6 - 8 years of experience in materials / inventory controls or store management.
Competencies
- Knowledge of the equipment material department in the railway industry will be considered an asset.
- Experience related to repair and overhaul material is a definite asset.
- Excellent skills in French and English communication, both oral and written.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service and results oriented.
- Must have excellent analytical skills, multitasking capabilities, be pro-active and flexible.
- Experience in working with a procurement team in the achievement of team objectives /projects.
- Shows initiative in solving problems and has strong organizational and planning skills.
- Must have advanced skills with the use of Microsoft Office suite, more specifically Excel.
- Procurement experience with an Oracle ERP system is an asset.
