Duties

  • Offer friendly companionship and emotional support to older adults and individuals with disabilities, promoting social engagement and mental well-being
  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility assistance, and toileting
  • Monitor residents' health by observing for changes in behavior or physical condition; report concerns promptly to healthcare professionals
  • Support medication reminders and help with medication administration following proper protocols and HIPAA regulations
  • Prepare nutritious meals and snacks tailored to dietary needs; assist with meal planning and cooking as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards by assisting with light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning living areas, laundry, and organizing personal belongings
  • Use specialized equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts safely to transfer individuals with mobility challenges
  • Follow care plans meticulously to ensure personalized support aligned with each resident's needs
  • Document observations, care activities, and incidents accurately while respecting residents' privacy and confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines
  • Participate in training sessions on dementia care, Alzheimer's care, hospice care, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities to enhance caregiving skills
  • Engage residents in recreational activities to promote mental stimulation and social interaction
  • Support residents during emergencies or medical situations by following established protocols including CPR or first aid when necessary

Skills

  • Proven experience in senior care, assisted living, home health, hospice care or long-term care environments
  • Knowledge of patient observation techniques and vital signs monitoring
  • Familiarity with dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care and working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts; physically capable of assisting residents with mobility needs
  • Strong understanding of medication administration procedures adhering to HIPAA regulations
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with residents, families, healthcare teams, and colleagues
  • Experience working in group homes or residential facilities is highly desirable
  • Basic knowledge of CPR and first aid certification required; ongoing training encouraged
  • Ability to maintain detailed documentation for care plans and incident reports accurately
  • Compassionate attitude combined with patience, empathy, and active listening skills
  • Capable of working independently as well as part of a team dedicated to providing exceptional resident-centered support
