Duties
- Offer friendly companionship and emotional support to older adults and individuals with disabilities, promoting social engagement and mental well-being
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility assistance, and toileting
- Monitor residents' health by observing for changes in behavior or physical condition; report concerns promptly to healthcare professionals
- Support medication reminders and help with medication administration following proper protocols and HIPAA regulations
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks tailored to dietary needs; assist with meal planning and cooking as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards by assisting with light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning living areas, laundry, and organizing personal belongings
- Use specialized equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts safely to transfer individuals with mobility challenges
- Follow care plans meticulously to ensure personalized support aligned with each resident's needs
- Document observations, care activities, and incidents accurately while respecting residents' privacy and confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines
- Participate in training sessions on dementia care, Alzheimer's care, hospice care, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities to enhance caregiving skills
- Engage residents in recreational activities to promote mental stimulation and social interaction
- Support residents during emergencies or medical situations by following established protocols including CPR or first aid when necessary
Skills
- Proven experience in senior care, assisted living, home health, hospice care or long-term care environments
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques and vital signs monitoring
- Familiarity with dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care and working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts; physically capable of assisting residents with mobility needs
- Strong understanding of medication administration procedures adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with residents, families, healthcare teams, and colleagues
- Experience working in group homes or residential facilities is highly desirable
- Basic knowledge of CPR and first aid certification required; ongoing training encouraged
- Ability to maintain detailed documentation for care plans and incident reports accurately
- Compassionate attitude combined with patience, empathy, and active listening skills
- Capable of working independently as well as part of a team dedicated to providing exceptional resident-centered support
