Resource Innovations is seeking a demand side management (DSM) research and evaluation consultant to join our growing energy research and program evaluation teams in Canada and the United States. The DSM Research and Evaluation Consultant will work within the Advisory Services business unit that provides empirically based research and program evaluations, with a focus on behavioral elements, to support energy efficiency programs and energy transition efforts in Canada and the United States.

The position will be part of our Consumer Behavior team and will work closely with our Research and Process Evaluation team. The consultant will support studies for energy industry clients to inform market-facing energy efficiency programs and energy

transformation initiatives through data collection and analysis, while also contributing to research and evaluation planning, reporting, task management, and client engagement.

The position is well-suited for candidates with analytical and research skills. The consultant position requires two or more years of relevant work experience with knowledge of DSM program evaluation principles or market research, behavioral science, energy efficiency, and energy efficiency programs. Experience in survey and interview-based research and quantitative or qualitative analysis are desirable. Familiarity with programming surveys in Qualtrics or with statistical software packages such as R are a plus.

Requirements
  • Research design: Contribution to overall study-level research and evaluation planning. Development of surveys and interview guides and associated implementation plans.
  • Data collection support: Data collection through secondary research, surveys and interviews, support conducting group interviews and moderating focus groups, and acquisition of market data from public and purchased sources.
  • Analytical support: Analysis of data gathered using statistical techniques and qualitative analysis, application of established net-to-gross algorithms, and policy analysis.
  • Reporting: Contribute to memos and draft reports, presentation of results, and development of actionable recommendations for clients. Support presentation to and engagement with clients.
  • Task and project management: Manage tasks (with peer support) and support management of projects.
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a relevant field (such as social science, economics, policy, environmental science, or engineering).
  • 2+years of experience in a DSM-related field, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Analytical and research aptitude and mindset
  • Intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning
  • Understanding of the theory and best practices in survey and interview design, implementation, and analysis (with relevant experience for junior-level researcher position)
  • Experience in supporting development of draft research reports detailing analytical findings and well-supported conclusions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills (writing and verbal)
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment. Preferred skills, education and experience
  • Understanding of behavioral science principles and organizational decision-making
  • An understanding of energy efficiency and DSM program processes, theory logic models, program process flow diagrams, customer journey maps, net-to-gross analyses, energy end uses, energy efficiency market, and energy efficiency technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Resource Innovations offers competitive salaries based on a candidate's skills, experience and qualifications for the position.  The compensation range for the base salary for this position is $69,000 – $104,000 CAD.  In addition to base pay, employees are eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.  The stated salary represents the expected compensation for this position.  Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, education and location. 

We also offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes three weeks of paid vacation per year; paid holidays; a 401(k)-retirement plan with employer matching; health, dental and vision insurance; and other supplemental benefits.
