*This is a 1 year temporary position and will require a hybrid onsite presence in Victoria BC*

EA SPORTS is one of the leading sports entertainment brands in the world, with top-selling videogame franchises, award-winning interactive technology, fan programs, and cross-platform digital experiences. EA SPORTS creates connected experiences that ignite the emotion of sport through industry-leading sports video games, including Madden NFL football, College Football, EA Sports FC soccer, NHL hockey, and EA SPORTS UFC.

As a UI Software Engineer you will be part of the game creation process, including implementation and debugging on multiple platforms. You will work on complex problems with Designers, Artists and other Engineers in the XD domain. You will report to a software engineering manager and work with your peers and the technical lead to develop the game's UI systems.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with designers, artists, and engineers across multiple timezones and locations, to implement and refine game-client UI screens and workflows that are accessible and engaging for a passionate audience.
  • Help define, architect, and implement end-to-end UI functionality, working with service and game client engineers to ensure seamless player interactions.
  • Lay out and build dynamic, responsive screens and reusable components, with attention to usability and performance.
  • Partner with XD Team to iterate on and polish player-facing features in regards to Experience Design, while still ensuring performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to and improve team best practices, processes, and tools, helping foster a healthy and supportive development environment.
  • Design, maintain, and debug performant UI code, including profiling and optimization for multiple platforms.
  • Build and maintain tools and reusable UI technologies to accelerate development and empower content creators.
  • Develop modular and reusable code using industry and company standards and programming patterns.
  • Demonstrates openness to feedback and incorporates review comments constructively.

Your Qualifications

  • Experience with strongly typed, OOP, programming languages; C++ preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience.
  • Understanding of a Box Model UI Architecture such as: .NET Xaml, HTML Flexbox, Unity UI Toolkit, UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics UI Designer), or XUL.
  • Strong foundation in object-oriented design, good engineering practices, and working within an iterative, collaborative development process.
  • Experience with visuals scripting tools such as Unreal Blueprint or Unity Visual Scripting Graph.
  • A desire to improve your skill set and help your teammates grow theirs; we succeed together.
  • Experience with version control systems and code reviews.

Bonus

  • Working knowledge of design tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Figma, and comfort collaborating directly with XD designers.
  • Passion for building inclusive, accessible player experience – and for bringing people together through games.
  • Experience working on a live service or MMO-style game and navigating their unique UI challenges.
  • Familiarity with runtime performance, memory management, and optimization techniques related to UI Engineering.
  • Understanding of UI asset pipelines, game development patterns, and best practices.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$83,000 - $116,400 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, and extended health/dental/vision coverage and basic life insurance.
