We invite online applications from sworn members for (1) plain-clothes investigative position. The successful applicant will be transferred on a date to be determined.   

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direction of the NCO i/c Drugs Firearms Enforcement Unit (DFEU) will conduct and co-ordinate investigations relating to proceeds of crime targets and the seizure of criminal assets. Ensure the consistent and appropriate application of federal statutes in criminal investigations. Assist investigators and front line officers with the appropriate applications and prepare cases for court. Perform other duties as assigned.

Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.

The mandate of the Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit shall be able to remove the financial gain from profit-motivated criminals by identifying, seizing and having forfeited the proceeds of crime. Furthermore, to utilize both criminal and civil asset forfeiture mechanisms to disrupt criminal activity within our communities.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor the activities and investigations of other officers which may relate to the profiting of individual(s) or organization(s) from criminal acts
  • Conduct investigations that may lead to the seizure of assets and detention orders
  • Prepare search warrants, production orders and other judicial authorizations in support of asset forfeiture investigations
  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, Policy & Procedures, and the Adequacy Standards Regulation
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. and other lawful assignments
  • Work both independently and as part of a team
  • Deliver presentations to service members, outside agencies and community groups on Proceeds of Crime legislation
  • Be accountable to supervision
  • Perform other duties as are lawfully assigned

Knowledge

  • A thorough understanding of the organizational structure, Routine Orders, Policy and Procedures, CALEA, and  practices within the Service, as it pertains to duties performed
  • A thorough working knowledge of police information systems and related in-house procedures; including but not limited to: Niche, CPIC, PIP
  • Working knowledge of criminal investigative procedures relating to proceed of crime and asset forfeiture investigations.  This would include the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Customs and Excise Act, Seized Property Management Act, Canada Evidence Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. 
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial analysis is preferred.
