ROLE PURPOSE

This position will assist the supervisor in providing orientation, training, work direction, and guidance to residence workers. Assists clients to live successfully in residential settings such as group homes. Ensures that clients' physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met. Assists client to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills.




STATUS

Unionized. This position is open to all genders. 


HOURS (40 HOURS PER WEEK)

Sunday to Thursday,

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS



Reports and is accountable to the Program Manager of the facility or their designate  Participates actively in house, staff, and staff/resident meetings  Participates as a member of the Connective staff team  Liaises with outside professionals from other agencies or government bodies as required 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Assists the supervisor in providing orientation, training, work direction, and guidance to residence workers by performing duties such as clarifying program policies, reviewing work, and scheduling residence workers. Provides input to residence workers' performance evaluations.  May oversee the operation of the residence in the absence of the supervisor or as directed. Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Personal Service Plan) for individuals living in a residence. Documents, implements, and provides input into the evaluation of the program.  In cooperation with the Residence Manager, is available to all resource staff, in case of emergencies. This may include carrying the pager or cell phone 24 hours a day.  Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills, and personal finance and implements personal service plans.  Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming, and toileting.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Function independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support team Adhere to Connective policies and procedures Be available to work flexible hours as needed. May include some evenings/weekends, as determined by the regional office needs and schedules Participates in various client-focused activities in accordance with care plans.  Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as clients' aggressive behaviors to ensure no harm comes to the client and/or the public. Reports problems to the supervisor.   Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.   Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties Provides input to counsellor, professional with regard to the development of appropriate program plans to achieve residents' objectives.  Contributes to the evaluation of residents' progress and prepares reports.   Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families.  Transports and assists residents to appointments, shopping, or leisure activities.  Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment, and food services. Maintains reports such as statistics, logbooks, daily activities on residents.  Identifies social economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients' needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.  Performs other related duties as required. 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Functions independently while on shift and adhere to Residence Policy and Procedures Works in a high stress environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations Demonstrates initiative, independence, and efficiency Demonstrates a level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the required duties of the program and to meet the operational needs of the residence Works 40 hours per week with time apportioned through days, evenings, overnights, and weekends as necessary to meet the program and client needs Provides appropriate personal transportation with required business insurance coverage to enable the movement of the worker and resident around the Lower Mainland as required by the goals of the program Is a member of CUPE local Receives benefits and work within the conditions as outlined in the Collective Agreement and Personnel Policies


QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work within a fast-paced, growth-focused environment. The ideal candidate has:



A university Degree in a relevant branch of the Behavioral Sciences  Experience in the appropriate field and demonstrate a clear ability to respond well in crisis situations  An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities  Demonstrated experience in an applicable residential setting  Demonstrated a good working knowledge of the technical details important to the functioning of group residences  An awareness of Community Living of British Columbia (the contractor) concerns, laws and policies related to the specific residence program  Demonstrated the ability to teach skills and work effectively with others  Knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the fields related to the particular residence Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English 


REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver's license
  • Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport residents
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements
  • Current Emergency First Aid (Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafeBC)


COMPENSATION
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $29.17 to $33.49 per hour. Plus benefits enrollment as per the Collective Agreement.



Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
