Geotechnical Engineer,
to join our Ground Engineering Team, located in
either Calgary or Edmonton.

What you can expect to do with us:
- Lead the geotechnical design and analysis of dam structures, including earth fill, rockfill, concrete gravity, and arch dams.
- Oversee the construction and maintenance of dams, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Plan and oversee site geotechnical investigations and assessments to determine the feasibility and safety of dam projects.
- Participate in the design of plans, specifications, reports and other technical documents for river engineering, dams and hydroelectric projects;
- Review and supervise development of the following: geotechnical, and structural design calculations, modeling studies, engineering drawings, reports, project standards and specifications, quantity take-offs, engineering cost estimates, and permit applications for projects involving hydraulic structures.
- Coordination with relevant regulatory authorities and utilities.
- Work on proposals and take part in our business development efforts
- Manage projects from the planning stage to delivery to the client with both the project controls to technical coordination
- Supervise engineering resources, including technicians and other engineers.
- Liaise closely with established technical teams to coordinate engineering work
- Ensure quality assurance of various deliverables.
- Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential dam failures or issues.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and staff.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Attend industry events, conferences, and seminars to promote WSP's and your profile.
We would like to know more about you if you have:
- Master's degree or PhD in civil engineering with a geotechnical engineering background, or any other education deemed equivalent.
- Engineer member of a professional order in a province in Canada.
- Fifteen (15) years or more of relevant experience in the field.
- Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes.
- Commitment to internal and external client service.
- Motivational; staff development mindset; excellent leadership/managerial and mentoring/teaching skills.
- Highly organized; detail oriented; skilled with implementation/ logistics.
- Collaborative, drives consensus.
- Strong communication skills, including excellent English technical verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Specialized dam engineering expertise with a strong background in the fields of geotechnical or structural engineering
- Any design experience of hydraulic structures (dams, weirs, bank protection etc.).
- Sense of initiative, proactivity, resourcefulness, autonomy and attention to detail;
- Ability to work in a team;
- Communication proficiency – written, verbal, presentation.
