Schneider Electric is excited to offer a 4 or 8 month co-op opportunity to join our team in Victoria, BC Canada. In this role, you will contribute to the development and testing of our Advanced Power Metering products such as the ION9000 and PM8000.
Our flagship product, the ION9000, won the 2021 Engineers' Choice award These meters are deployed globally to help organizations reduce energy consumption, improve power reliability, and measure carbon emissions.
As part of our team, you'll gain hands-on experience in embedded systems testing—both manual and automated—while contributing to products that support a more sustainable future.
What will you do?
As an Embedded Firmware Designer Co-op, your primary focus will be on testing embedded firmware to ensure product quality and reliability. You'll work closely with developers, testers, and professional engineers in an agile environment. This role is ideal for students who are eager to learn and grow their skills in embedded systems testing, regardless of prior experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and executing manual and automated test cases for embedded firmware features.
- Developing and maintaining automated test scripts using Python and Pytest.
- Participating in feature design reviews and contributing to test strategy discussions.
- Performing functional, regression, and exploratory testing on embedded devices.
- Collaborating with the team to improve DevOps tools and test environments.
- Learning and applying best practices in cybersecurity, safety, and quality assurance.

Preferred qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Familiarity with Python and basic scripting (experience with Pytest is a plus).
- Interest in embedded systems, firmware, or hardware/software integration.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Previous testing experience is helpful but not required—mentorship and training will be provided.
