The City of Lethbridge

Subjects
Lethbridge School Division is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our team as the Elementary Indigenous Education Teacher (grades 1 to 5). The successful candidate will report to the Coordinator of Indigenous Education and will be responsible for the delivery of academic, vocational and leadership building, within a culturally sensitive context for all students in the Division while supporting meaningful relationships specifically with students of Indigenous ancestry. They will support holistic learning in areas such as cultural teachings, traditions and spirituality through the Alberta Program of Studies, First Nations Métis and Inuit Outcomes.
The successful candidate will:
Demonstrate dedication to supporting students of Indigenous ancestry and fostering their academic, cultural and personal success;
Exhibit strong organizational skills and effective time management within dynamic school environments;
Bring extensive experience working with Indigenous populations and authentically integrating Indigenous culture, perspectives and language into classroom instruction;
Work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in various educational settings;
Support curriculum delivery through collaborative partnerships with school staff, specialists, teachers and the Indigenous Education Team;
Develop and implement culturally responsive programming in collaboration with the teachers in classrooms and non-traditional environments;
Build and maintain comprehensive resource library in partnership with Indigenous education liaisons and teachers;
Design, deliver and sustain meaningful Indigenous education programs that have lasting impact;
Work collaboratively with teachers to align curriculum with appropriate learner outcomes and Indigenous ways of knowing;
Serve as a positive role-model for students through active participation in scheduled and informal recreational activities;
Assist with and participate in special events, conferences, and other professional learning activities;
Identify and support learning opportunities beyond regular school hours;
Demonstrate, coordinate and authentically integrate Indigenous traditional activities and teachings into curriculum;
Plan and coordinate Indigenous family nights and community events at various school sites;
Teach Indigenous Culture at the Elementary School level in ways that honour traditions and engage students;
Have knowledge of Blackfoot Language and Culture;
Possess the ability to teach Blackfoot language at the elementary school level (considered an asset).
- Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate;
- Class 5 driver's license and a roadworthy vehicle to travel to Division schools is required.
Conditions of Employment
In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:
- A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
- A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
- Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver's licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
- Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee's legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
