Interim Clinical Director

Reports To: EVP Clinical Services

Duration: 6 Months

Location: Toronto, ON

Open to either 4 or 5 days a week

Our client, a high-profile hospital, is looking to hire an experienced clinical leader to add critical expertise and capacity to their team making significant changes across a key clinical portfolio. This is a great opportunity to join a leading Toronto hospital at a pivotal moment of transformation. In this interim role you will drive operational excellence and strategic change across a dynamic portfolio, collaborating with executive leaders to deliver the ultimate patient experience and advance organizational goals. You will play a critical role helping the EVP to assess the talent, organizational structure, policies and systems to enhance patient safety and experience. We are looking for an experienced leader who thrives in a dynamic and changing environment and wants to use their expertise to make a difference.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assess the people, policies, processes and procedures across the portfolio providing key insights to the EVP.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to define the strategic priorities in accordance with program objectives.
  • Coach, lead, inspire and engage a diverse team through a transition.
  • Balance the day-to-day operational needs with strategic priorities and set the direction for the department through example and in accordance with the strategic priorities of the hospital and the EVP.
  • Participate in strategic planning, quality and operational improvement, patient service, budget management, capital equipment prioritization, and human resources planning.
  • Strategically plan and collaborate with all service levels to ensure alignment of organizational resources and goals.
  • Advance the profile of the programs by strengthening collaboration with both internal and external community partners.
  • Drive improvements in patient safety metrics and staff engagement scores.
  • Oversee quality and operational improvement, patient service, budget management, capital equipment prioritization and human resources planning.
  • Evaluate the workforce and actively engage in change management and process improvement as necessary.
  • Engage in developing and prioritizing various projects, along with identifying the life cycle for long-term initiatives.
  • Enhancing interprofessional collaboration and delivering the ultimate patient experience throughout the continuum of patient care.
  • Foster safe working environment, educate staff on health & safety protocol and ensure ongoing compliance with safety legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Presidents, Program Directors, Physician Leaders, Managers, Chiefs of Service and other team members to ensure effective teamwork and achievement of the targeted outcomes and the effective and efficient use of resources within the program.
  • Ensures that systems are in place to enable optimal clinical decision-making and patient care.

Competencies and Requirements:

  • 10 years + of healthcare industry experience, with at least 5 years of senior leadership experience.
  • Regulated Health Professional i.e. College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Solid experience leading large complex programs as a Clinical Director in an acute or academic hospital.
  • Proven ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams in complex environments.
  • Experience leading change management initiatives and complex projects in the healthcare sector.
  • Knowledge of current healthcare delivery systems and practices of healthcare administration.
