This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced Biomedical Technologist to step into a newly created lead role and build a centralized biomedical technology program from the ground up.
As the Lead, Biomedical Technologist, you will have the mandate, autonomy, and influence to design, implement, and continuously evolve an in‑house biomedical technologies program that directly supports frontline clinical care advances patient safety. This role extends beyond day‑to‑day maintenance. You will be at the center of program strategy, process development, best‑practice leadership, and lifecycle accountability defining how biomedical technologies are managed across the organization and setting the benchmark for reliability, compliance, and performance. Key Accountabilities:
Program Leadership & Development
Build and lead a centralized biomedical technologies program, creating the processes, policies, and standards that support safe, consistent, and compliant equipment management.
Act as the subject matter expert and technical authority, providing guidance and direction on biomedical best practices across the organization.
Develop and continuously improve preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, asset tracking, and lifecycle management programs.
Establish risk‑based maintenance strategies aligned to manufacturer guidance, regulatory standards, and operational realities.
Lead cross functional alignment with operations, logistics, and clinical stakeholders to embed standards and drive operation.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Oversight
Lead the development and standardization of preventive maintenance procedures, including checklists, test methods, tolerances, and documentation.
Ensure biomedical equipment is inspected, tested, calibrated, verified and documented before being returned to service.
Oversee triage, diagnostics, repairs, and root cause analysis for equipment failures, ensuring safety and reliability.
Integrate OEM service information, recalls, and hazard alerts into maintenance and repair workflows.
Asset Management & Availability
Implement and manage biomedical asset tracking systems to support equipment location, recall response, maintenance notifications, and loss prevention.
Monitor key performance indicators including equipment uptime, out‑of‑service rates, utilization, and mean time to repair.
Drive actions that improve availability, reduce downtime, and ensure bases have the biomedical assets required to maintain service delivery.
Lifecycle & Vendor Management
Lead equipment lifecycle planning from acquisition through end‑of‑life, using data to balance safety, clinical need, and cost.
Engage with vendors and suppliers, manage service contracts, parts logistics, and escalation pathways.
Proactively identify supply‑chain risks and implement mitigation strategies, including alternate sourcing and inventory planning.
Process, Policy & Continuous Improvement
Develop and document policies, procedures, and workflows that ensure consistency, compliance, and audit readiness.
Analyze service data and trends to identify systemic issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
Contribute to strategic planning related to biomedical technologies, service expansion, and regulatory readiness.
Create training and reference materials to support consistent practices and knowledge transfer across sites.
Qualifications:
Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from a recognized post‑secondary institution.
Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CBET) or equivalent professional certification required.
Registration or eligibility for registration with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience supporting a broad range of diagnostic, therapeutic, monitoring, and life‑support medical equipment in a regulated healthcare environment.
Demonstrated experience leading or significantly contributing to preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, biomedical asset tracking, and lifecycle management programs.
Proven ability to develop, implement, and standardize processes, policies, and procedures that improve equipment reliability, safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Strong working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, manufacturer requirements, and best practices governing biomedical equipment maintenance.
Advanced technical expertise in the inspection, installation, calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance of complex medical devices and systems.
Experience engaging with vendors and OEMs, managing service contracts, parts logistics, recalls, and hazard notices.
Recognized as a trusted technical authority and lead resource, with the ability to guide, mentor, and influence others while exercising sound judgment and a high degree of independence.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to conduct root cause analysis and use service data to drive continuous improvement.
Systems thinker with the ability to design scalable processes from the ground up.
Clear, proactive communicator who builds trust with frontline staff and leaders.
Models inclusive collaboration and invites feedback and closed the loops of communication.
