Certified Activity Aide-Part time, Extendicare Rouge Valley

Hours: 30 hours by-weekly

Salary: As per current SEIU collective Agreement

Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Part-time Activity Aide at our 192-bed long-term care home. Reporting to the resident Program Supervisor, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a post-secondary diploma or degree from an accredited community college or university in recreation, leisure or activation studies or therapeutic recreation, OR a degree or diploma in Social Service Worker in Gerontology; Music Therapy; or Gerontology that includes at least 3 courses in recreation and leisure or therapeutic recreation
  • Experience providing recreation program planning and implementation with seniors with physical and cognitive impairment is considered an asset.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly
  • Demonstration of oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Demonstration of planning and creative abilities
  • Membership in Recreation Professionals of Ontario or Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is preferred

RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group recreation programs based on assessed needs of residents and as assigned by supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor behaviors and conditions of residents during programs and report and significant changes as appropriate.
  • Participate in development and revision and revision of programs and volunteer department under the guidance of the supervisor.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to department policy.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
