Position Title: Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA)

Location: Tiny Scholars Playschool – Abbotsford

Compensation: $19.00 per hour

Employment Status: Part-Time

Hours of Work:

  • Split shift, Monday to Friday (approximately 5 hours per day):

  • 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM

  • 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Occasional participation in after-hours meetings or events as required.
  • Flexibility is required to support the needs of the children and the facility.

Purpose of the Role

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant is responsible for fostering a play-based, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for children, ensuring their physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. This role supports the mission of Tiny Scholars Playschool to provide high-quality child care rooted in exploration and creativity to create future global leaders through the ABC Formula (Attitude, Beliefs, and Competency), primarily in the School Age Program, with the opportunity to also support the Infant/Toddler and 3-5year old programs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Play Invitations

  • Design and implement daily play-based invitations that align with developmental milestones and individual interests using the Monthly Play Invitations.
  • Create a day that incorporates sensory, creative, physical, and social play invitations to foster holistic child development.
  • Observe, assess, and document children's day, adjusting the day to meet evolving needs. Seek out opportunities to recognize and celebrate new developmental achievements.
  • Understanding of the BC Early Learning Framework and BC Play Today.

2. Child Supervision and Safety

  • Provide constant active supervision of children to ensure their safety at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom and outdoor play areas including basic housekeeping, cleaning, sanitizing; ensuring up to date checklists and reporting of any hazards to the Playschool Director.
  • Encourage and assist children in carrying out daily routines.
  • Follow all safety standards and Educator guidelines as set forth in the Educator Guide.
  • Model appropriate and positive behaviour.
  • Address and redirect challenging behaviours by following the Tiny Scholars Behavioural Guidance, promoting positive language, self-esteem and identity.
  • Implement fire, emergency and evacuation drills once a month following Playschool protocols, ensuring all logs are up to date.
  • Knowledgeable of the Playschool Illness and Medical Policies including when to send a child home, when a child can return, medication administration, Enhanced Medical Care and Action Plan, and Individual Support Care and Action Plan.
  • Maintain documentation and keeping records of children's development and progression.
  • Provide safe supervision of transport for the school age children between Tiny Scholars and their Elementary School.

3. Relationship Building

  • Build trusting and respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Communicate daily with families regarding children's progress, behaviours, and activities via face to face interactions, phone calls, emails, Kindertales posts and messaging.
  • Act as a resource for families, offering strategies to support children's development at home.

4. Professional Conduct

  • Follow all policies, procedures, and guidelines set by the British Columbia Child Care Licensing Regulation and Tiny Scholars Playschool including Conflict Resolution and Code of Conduct.
  • Uphold the ethical standards outlined in the Early Childhood Educators of BC Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and reliability in all aspects of work.

5. Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with other educators to plan and deliver cohesive Play Invitations.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional development workshops.
  • Provide mentorship or guidance to assistant educators, support staff and practicum students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Playschool Director.

6. Classroom Management

  • Set up and maintain inviting, organized, and developmentally appropriate Play spaces.
  • Rotate and adapt materials and activities to keep the environment stimulating and engaging.
  • Ensure toys, equipment, and learning materials are cleaned, sanitized, and in good condition.
  • Attend Parent – Educator meetings as required, to discuss challenges and progress relating to children or program.

7. Inclusion and Diversity

  • Promote an inclusive environment that respects cultural diversity, individual abilities, and learning styles.
  • Implement strategies to support children with diverse needs, working closely with families and specialists as necessary.

8. Professional Development

  • Commit to ongoing professional learning and keep ECEA certification and first aid credentials up to date.
  • Stay informed of current trends and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Attending Professional Days and Workshops as required.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Required:
    • Valid British Columbia Early Childhood Educator Assistant Certification
  • Current Emergency Child Care First Aid Certification
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Immunization Record
  • 3 Letters of Character Reference
