We are a turnkey utility construction company, specializing in horizontal directional drilling (HDD), hydrovac, excavating, trenching, fiber splicing and underground utility construction in the telecom, utility, and pipeline industry. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced HDD Driller/Locator to join our team in underground utility/telecom installation.

Job Summary:

The Driller/Locator is responsible for operating and maintaining HDD/locating equipment to install underground utilities such as fiber optic cables, conduits, and pipelines. This role requires expertise in reading project plans/locates, executing bore paths, and ensuring precise drilling operations while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD)/locating equipment to install underground utilities safely and accurately.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, bore logs, and utility locates to determine drill paths.
  • Monitor and adjust drilling operations to avoid existing underground utilities and ensure proper bore alignment.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and ensure proper maintenance of drilling equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, company policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Troubleshoot drilling issues, fluid systems, and equipment malfunctions as needed.
  • Maintain equipment by performing routine inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Complete daily logs, production reports, and maintenance records.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment/locating equipment (experience in both is preferred) in utility and/or telecom construction.
  • Strong knowledge of utility locates, bore path planning, and underground safety procedures.
  • Ability to read blueprints, utility maps, and job site plans.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with troubleshooting drills, mud systems, locating systems, etc.
  • Understanding of drilling fluids, reaming, and pullback techniques.
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver's license is required.
  • Certifications such as First Aid, Ground Disturbance, and CSTS are required. All other certifications are an asset.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
