Pro-Can Construction Group Corp., a Burnaby-based General Contractor with 4 decades of experience, is currently looking for a working CSO to join our team in assisting on our projects we currently have in North Vancouver and Vancouver, BC.

The Construction Safety Officer is responsible for adopting and implementing the company's Health and Safety Program. The CSO's primary responsibility is to ensure that all workers, staff, visitors and the general public follow the company's safety rules and regulations, to ensure that job site safety and environmental standards are always met or exceeded. In addition, the CSO will be required to assist the Superintendent with miscellaneous manual work, project layout, and light carpentry.

The following are some of the responsibilities of the Construction Safety Officer:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Site Superintendent on-site throughout the construction phase
  • Promote a culture of jobsite safety, where safety is everyone's responsibility
  • Develop, maintain, post, communicate and test an appropriate Emergency Response Plan
  • Maintain proper job site documentation
  • Regularly monitor safety compliance of workers and sub-contractors
  • Conduct site specific health and safety orientations for all new site workers and visitors
  • Develop content, share, attend, document and provide leadership for weekly Toolbox Meetings
  • Conduct a comprehensive Monthly Safety Meeting following upon the minutes of the last meeting
  • Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective action as required
  • Conduct hazard assessments, incident investigations and risk assessments, as required
  • Investigate and complete all accident/incident reports in a timely manner and post documentation
  • Review sub-contractors' documentation for accuracy and provide feedback to personnel
  • Keep management updated on issues that arise
  • Support Pro-Can's HSE program, COR program
  • Administer first aid as necessary
  • Assist with labour duties as required, traffic control, project layout, light carpentry, and site maintenance
  • Perform other duties as required to keep proper site workflow

SPECIFIC SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO)
  • Intermediate First Aid (OFA 2) or Advanced First Aid (OFA 3)
  • Fall Protection Training Certificate
  • 3 Year Minimum Experience in Construction
  • Good knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations, policies, guidelines and standards
  • Proactive in identifying hazards and implementing corrective measures
  • Demonstrated ability to keep detailed and accurate safety records
  • Adaptable, and able to use good judgment and manage the unexpected
  • Traffic Management and Overhead Crane experience a benefit
  • Able to commute to any of our site locations throughout the Metro Vancouver area

Must speak fluent English and have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
