We're more than a Heavy Civil Construction and Mining Services company — we're a team committed to building the foundations communities grow on. From roads and utilities to major mining infrastructure, our work stretches across Western Canada, and we're known for taking on the projects others won't touch.
Our people are the heart of our success. We invest in them with competitive wages, strong benefits, and room to grow. If you take pride in doing the job safely and doing it well, you'll fit right in.
How You'll Contribute
As a Class 1 Driver, you're a key part of keeping our projects moving. You'll ensure materials, equipment, and products get where they need to go — safely, efficiently, and professionally. That includes supporting lowbedding operations, chaining equipment securely, and hauling everything from small attachments to large iron. Working closely with Loader Operators and site teams, you'll bring a strong safety mindset, reliable work ethic, and a commitment to representing MacKay well on every haul.
Location & Hours
This role is based out of our Cranbrook, BC headquarters, with work across the East Kootenays and Alberta.
Shift schedules vary by project, and while overtime may come up, it isn't expected to be the norm.
What You'll Do
- Lead With Safety – Put personal and team safety first in every task and every decision.
- Operate Trucks with Care – Perform safe and efficient dump truck and lowbed operations, including loading, unloading, securing, chaining, and hauling materials and equipment.
- Keep Equipment Clean & Ready – Maintain vehicle cleanliness, fuel and grease regularly, and remove all garbage after each shift.
- Document & Record Accurately – Complete all pre-trip/post-trip inspections, logbooks, FLHAs, and timecards in accordance with NSC and MacKay standards.
- Watch for Maintenance Needs – Monitor truck performance, complete basic upkeep, and report mechanical concerns promptly to the Maintenance Manager.
- Deliver on Schedule – Complete assignments efficiently while maintaining the highest safety standards.
- Work as a Team – Collaborate with Loader Operators, supervisors, and site teams to support smooth operations.
- Stay Compliant – Follow all company policies, safety protocols, and environmental procedures.
- Pitch In Where Needed – Assist with equipment moves, site support, and other tasks that contribute to overall project success.
What You Bring
- Class 1 Licence with a clean abstract (30 days current).
- Experience lowbedding, chaining, and moving construction equipment — considered a strong asset.
- Relevant experience in road construction, aggregates, or equipment hauling.
- Safety mindset and confidence operating in all weather and site conditions.
- Physical ability to work outdoors and handle up to 23kg (50 lbs).
- Strong communication skills — verbal, written, and non-verbal.
- Reliability & attitude — you show initiative, work hard, and bring positivity to the team.
- Maintenance know-how with a basic understanding of truck preventative care.
Why MacKay
At MacKay, you're not just moving materials — you're helping build projects that matter.
You'll benefit from:
- Competitive wages and a full benefits package
- A supportive, safety-focused culture
- Work across diverse, exciting projects throughout Western Canada
- Training opportunities and room to grow within a respected, established company

At MacKay Contracting, we recognize that our employees are our greatest asset. We are proud to offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that includes:
