A Day in Life: 

The Production Technician (Laboratory) will perform laboratory testing safely and accurately, colligate test results, and maintain laboratory equipment and chemical supplies. They will provide operational assistance to the Production Department.

Position Details:

The schedule for this role is Monday to Friday 7am to 3:30pm, the hourly rate is $34.79

What You'll Be Doing:

Perform all duties safely.Comply with all government and corporate safety requirements.Comply with regulatory requirements and customer audits including CFIA, HACCP, AIB and others.In the absence of QA supervisor, authorize release of product, issue certificate of analysis.Conduct laboratory tests on raw materials, in process and finished products using wet chemistry and analytical instruments.Ensures compliance with Bunge safety policies by production staff and contractors at all times by putting safety before profit and production.Lead by example to ensure that safety culture is a natural part of the operations and continually strive for a zero-incident operation.Perform analytical tests for all incoming raw materials, in process and finished products.Assure that product meets or exceeds standards set forth by the company, Provincial/Federal Governments, and customers.Standardizing lab equipment.Follow and demonstrate all Quality and Food Safety programs, including: GMPs, Pest Control, HACCP, SOPs, Good Laboratory Practices, and the Food Security program.Provide accurate reports to departments and customers in a timely manner.Maintain a clean, orderly and safe workplace.All laboratory personnel are required to observe safe and proper work habits to include:  Wearing proper laboratory and safety garments such as smocks, disposable gloves, eye protection and face mask (as necessary).Record all analysis on appropriate log sheets.Replenish chemical solutions as needed.  Monitor and report on laboratory inventories.Conduct lab equipment calibrations.Train new lab technicians/operators in performing required analysis.Must properly setup and operate laboratory equipment effectively.Must have good communication skills.Commitment to supply safe food, maintain a food safety culture within the site, continually improve the site's food safety management system; and comply with customer and regulatory requirements.Other duties deemed necessary by a Supervisor/Manager.

Skill/Experience Requirements: 

A certificate, diploma, or a Bachelor's degree in Science, Chemistry, or Food Science with a minimum of 2 years in laboratory/chemical technology from an accredited post secondary institution.Knowledge of AOCS procedures, HACCP, Food Safety and other regulatory requirements of Canada and the U.S.Experience with wet chemistry and instrumentation, analysis of vegetable oils, fatty acid compositions, and other characteristics as required by customers.Familiarity with laboratory testing concepts, safe handling of hazardous materials, and basic statistics in the applied sciences.Ability to plan, organize, and work in a systematic manner under minimum supervision.Ability to think independently and to use critical judgment on product quality, certification, and customer collaborative test results in the absence of the laboratory supervisor.Good verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of computers, and application software.Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of hourly, staff, and management across various departments.Ability to work at heights, enter confined spaces and operate around equipment.Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.Working in this environment requires the mandatory use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots and hardhats.Suitable to work in extraction facilities where hexane and other chemicals are used.
