Child Care Program Supervisor
Reports To Centre Director / School Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The Child Care Centre Supervisor is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) who provides leadership, oversight, and operational management to ensure the delivery of high-quality, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate early learning and childcare programs. The Supervisor is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the centre, supervision and mentorship of staff, compliance with all legislative and licensing requirements, and fostering strong partnerships with families and community stakeholders.
Guided by the Child Care and Early Years Act, the Supervisor models professional practice, supports continuous quality improvement, and promotes a positive workplace culture that prioritizes children's well-being, educator growth, and family engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of Registered Early Childhood Educators and support staff
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture
- Provide guidance related to classroom management, pedagogy, professionalism, and ethical practice
- Address performance concerns in a timely, supportive, and professional manner
- Support staff scheduling, ratios, and coverage to meet operational and regulatory requirements
- Develops orientation process for new staff, students and volunteers.
- Carries out staff meetings and training programs, as needed.
Program Leadership & Operations
- Plans and supervises the implementation of all required programs and interrelated components of centre operations.
- Develops program objectives, activities, outcomes and indicators for the centre.
- Develops, plans and supervises activities to fulfil legislated requirements and all activities related to the successful renewal of the annual operating license under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Support curriculum planning, observation, documentation, and reflective practice across all classrooms
- Promote child-led, play-based, and inquiry-focused learning environments
- Knowledge of assessment measures to assess child development needs.
- Review, analyze and approve files, reports, correspondence and case management plans for children.
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with families
- Support clear, respectful, and timely communication with parents/guardians
- Address family questions, concerns, and feedback collaboratively and professionally
Policy, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Reviews and recommends revisions of established policy and procedures as related to child, parent and operations to ensure quality and comprehensive service.
- Review and suggest updates to the Parent Handbook as needed.
- Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation.
- Ensure all Ministry and public health requirements are met
- Ensure health, safety, nutrition, and emergency procedures are consistently followed
Other Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned, which are directly related to the responsibilities of the position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Certification
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE)
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a licensed child care setting as an RECE
- Working knowledge and experience with child development and family studies normally acquired through the completion of an Early Childhood Education Diploma and/or a Bachelor's Degree related to Child Development, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience in early learning and child care is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of Standards, Acts, Regulations and applicable professional standards of practice policies and procedures as they relate to child care.
- Must be registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
- Possess a demonstrated record of effective leadership and coaching, customer focus, team advocacy, staff delegation and development, and is results-oriented.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Health & Safety Act and applicable regulations as they relate to the position.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational, budgeting and administrative skills
- Computer literacy and comfort with digital documentation systems
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and child well-being
Ministry & Employment Requirements
- Must acquire Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencement of employment.
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification
- Food Handler Certification
Working Conditions
- On-site position in a licensed childcare environment
- A combination of classroom presence and administrative responsibilities
- Occasional flexibility in hours may be required to meet operational needs
