HOURS: This is a WEEKEND full time rotation, meaning the shifts are: Thursday to Monday, rotating shifts are 8am-4pm and 3pm-11pm.

Good Shepherd is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Community Mental Health Worker - HOMES - Emmaus Place

How You Will Make an Impact

The HOMES program provides supportive housing to persons who have been homeless and are living with a mental illness. Team members support tenants in scattered apartment units throughout the city to reach personal goals and to have a satisfying and meaningful life in the community.

Responsible for assessment, planning, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, conflict resolution between tenants and landlordsFacilitating social interaction and community integrationProvide linkages with other community servicesProvide primary support to individuals and support their recovery planningSome opportunities include work done in the community and in tenant apartments, with constant driving required for Mobile TeamMust be willing and able to assist in a hands-on capacity with tenantsObserve all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Primary case management and community development skills acquired through a post-secondary education in social work, registered practical nurse or other human service fieldMinimum of five years' experience in mental health in a community-based settingWorked in an outreach/mobile atmosphere is an assetKnowledge of community resources, the forensic system and the social and environmental determinants of healthDemonstrated cultural sensitivityMust have recovery orientation and consumer-driven style of practiceSome positions require a valid driver's license (for our Mobile Team) and must be willing to use personal vehicle at work and acquire appropriate insuranceTime management skills are necessary in a high energy, changing environmentIndividual and team problem-solving capability is essentialPro-active approach to service provisionCommitted to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good ShepherdFluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
