The Infrastructure Estimator will develop innovative and competitive approaches to execute the steel scope and general contract management of subcontractors on complex projects in the infrastructure rehab/construction and new construction markets. In this role, you will develop and create optimized and detailed plans for the execution of the scope of work being tendered. You will work collaboratively with various stakeholders and industry experts to ensure that potential risks and uncertainties that could impact project costs and timelines are minimized. You will also develop deep relationships with industry partners and suppliers

What you'll do
Responsibilities

Estimating & Technical Responsibilities

· Prepare detailed cost analyses and competitive estimates for bridge rehabilitation, new bridge construction, and other infrastructure projects.

· Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and addenda to confirm scope completeness and identify risks.

· Apply a strong sense of constructability to evaluate design complexity, site conditions, labour productivity, procurement challenges, and construction methods.

· Prepare material take-offs and pricing for labour, structural steel, concrete, and miscellaneous metals.

· Evaluate alternative materials, construction methods, and sequencing strategies to improve efficiency while maintaining structural integrity.

· Develop execution plans that minimize risk, control costs, and support project timelines.

· Prepare specification analyses, proposal documentation, bid forms, and quotation letters using clear technical writing.

· Prepare and distribute tender pricing in accordance with internal procedures and quality standards.

· Support internal and external design pricing, change order pricing, and project handover activities.

· Participate in estimating meetings and provide estimating support as required across the organization.

Risk Assessment & Collaboration

· Identify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project costs or schedules and communicate findings to stakeholders.

· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to develop mitigation strategies and contingencies.

· Participate in internal kickoff meetings and support smooth transitions from estimating to project execution.

· Conduct site visits as required to assess access, hazards, laydown areas, crane setup, and general site logistics.

Client, Supplier & Industry Relationships

· Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.

· Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing.

· Monitor target delivery dates and ensure compliance with contract requirements.

· Represent Marid professionally at industry meetings, site meetings, and industry-related events.

· Support business development by identifying potential infrastructure opportunities within Atlantic Canada and across Canada.

Continuous Improvement, Safety & Quality

· Follow Marid's policies, procedures, and quality assurance processes.

· Participate in health and safety initiatives, toolbox talks, and occupational health and safety programs.

· Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and a respectful, safe, and incident-free workplace.

· Provide general project or office support during periods of low estimating demand, as required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

· Primarily office-based in a modern facility with periodic site and fabrication shop visits.

· Exposure to construction environments with moderate noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

· Required to wear CSA-approved PPE on construction sites and production facilities.

· Ability to sit for extended periods, occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, and perform site-related physical activities as required.



What you'll need
Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

· Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Administration Technology, or a combination of education and relevant industry experience.
· 5+ years of relevant estimating experience in the construction or infrastructure industry.
· Strong understanding of construction processes, means, and methods for bridge construction.
· Knowledge of bridge rehabilitation involving steel and concrete is considered a strong asset.
· Experience with other infrastructure projects such as wharves, jetties, and piers is an asset.
· Excellent ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
· Proven ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated leadership ability.
· Valid driver's license (preferred).

Technical & Computer Skills
· Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and email.
· Experience with Bluebeam, ERP/EPM systems, Adobe, or scheduling software is considered an asset.
· Strong understanding of both Imperial and Metric measurement systems.
