Overview:

The Pet Trainer is responsible for developing and implementing training programs to teach pets—primarily dogs, and occasionally other animals—desired behaviors, obedience skills, and socialization. This role involves working closely with pet owners to provide guidance on effective training techniques, addressing behavioral issues, and promoting positive reinforcement methods.

Responsibility:

  • Conduct training sessions for pets and their owners, both individually and in group classes.
  • Evaluate animals' behavior, temperament, and learning styles to develop customized training plans.
  • Teach obedience commands, manners, and behavior modification techniques.
  • Provide ongoing education and support to pet owners to ensure training success.
  • Use humane, positive reinforcement–based methods at all times.
  • Maintain detailed records of training progress, client interactions, and behavior assessments.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, groomers, and other pet care professionals as needed.
  • Stay current on modern training techniques and animal behavior research.

  • Ensure all training environments are safe, clean, and stress-free for pets and clients.

  • Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (certification or degree in animal behavior, zoology, or related field preferred).
  • Certification from a recognized training organization (e.g., CCPDT, APDT, IAABC) is a plus.
  • Proven experience training animals, especially dogs, in a professional setting.
  • Strong understanding of animal behavior, learning theory, and humane training methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for animals.
  • Physical ability to handle animals of various sizes and energy levels.

Compensation

  • Independent contractor position — groomer retains an agreed-upon percentage of service revenue

Pay: From $200.00 per day
