Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Performance and Strategy, you will work with all levels of employees across the organization to drive improvement in processes and systems and supporting the implementation of programs that will positively affect the performance of the City and enhance our service to the community. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City's Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city. The City has chosen Lean Six Sigma as the process improvement methodology upon which the Continuous Improvement (CI) program is built.

The CI Program Advisor will continue to support the delivery of Lean training, Belt certification, maintaining and updating CI tools, and coaching and supporting individual and teams in CI initiatives.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Research, and assess CI best practices relevant to the City of Guelph;
  • Lead process reviews and collaborate with business areas to identify opportunities for improvement as required;
  • Liaise with management and staff to coordinate process improvement projects;
  • Develop, and lead Lean training for City staff;
  • Provide coaching, training and oversight of the City's Lean Belt certification candidates;
  • Regularly review the continuous improvement offerings and make improvements;
  • Assist in establishing justification for continuous improvement projects;
  • Provide technical advice and problem-solving assistance to the departments within the organization;
  • Prepare reports and presentations on CI activities and plans for management, Council and community;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Considerable experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through the completion of a post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field with progressive experience in a continuous improvement-oriented roles. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Strong understanding of continuous improvement and Lean methodologies, including Black certification in Lean Six Sigma;
  • Proven experience of implementing successful process improvement projects;
  • Change management certification/education and/or experience;
  • Ability to prepare complex statistical reports and efficiency calculations as well as an understanding of performance measurement methods;
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office software and relevant business applications is required;
  • Team-oriented, demonstrated leadership abilities, experience in coaching and training others;
  • Knowledge of Adult Learning principles would be considered an asset;
  • Possess excellent communication, presentation, organization and problem solving skills;
  • Able to manage multiple and changing demands and priorities;
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of municipal activities is an asset.

Hours of work

35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m and 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for hybrid and flexible work arrangement options (as per current corporate policy).

Pay/Salary

Non-union Grade 5 Rate: $46.10- $57.65 per hour
