We are recruiting for an exceptional candidate to lead our nursing department and make a positive contribution to the lives of the seniors in our care, and the employees who provide that care.

JOB SUMMARY:

As a valued member of the team, the Director of Wellness demonstrates a commitment to the quality of resident care by providing services in accordance with the organization's vision, mission and values.

The Director of Wellness is accountable to the General Manager for the supervision of optimum care services based on legislative and organization standards, policies and procedures and the facilitation of the care team member development program.

The Director of Wellness is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Utilizes all aspects of the assessment and care plan tools to assess care needs

& staffing requirements;

· Monitors all resident incidents and directs team member's regarding interventions to prevent reoccurrence as applicable;

· Implements established policies and procedures with the objective of ensuring that

desirable standards are met;

· Works with all other departments to foster resident independence with appropriate supports in place;

· Monitors team member compliance with policy on Monitoring Resident Well Being and ensures follow-up is completed as required.

· Communicates changes in care levels to ensure that families are kept informed of potential changes related to care services;

· Monitors resident incidents / prepares families for higher levels of care/potential discharge;

· Facilitates family interviews and problem solving in relations to all aspects of care services.

Demonstrates personal attributes and communication skills that foster teamwork and customer satisfaction at all times and monitors team performance in relation to both;

· Responsible for recruitment, selection, orientation, development & performance management of Registered staff and PSW's;

· Acts as Team Member's Development Coordinator and facilitates the development and execution of the team member's development plan;

· Develops and monitors team member's schedules & work assignments to maximize the effectiveness of resources;

· Approves shift changes and processes payroll information as required.

· Interviews prospective residents and conducts assessments to determine suitability for admission;

· Conducts home visits to determine level of independence when applicable;

· Reviews pre-admission medical assessments for all prospects to determine if any

barriers to admission exist;

· Works collaboratively with administration to support the admission process; and

discharges.

· Completes all required documentation to meet legislative and organization standards of Practice including as required by regulation;

· Maintains all work areas in an organized & welcoming manner (tour ready);

· Liaises with hospitals, medical team members, community health care professionals to establish strong referral relationships;

· Remains current with standards and implements new processes as required.

· Oversees all aspects of the Infection control program and education of team members;

· Promotes & monitors compliance with the vaccination program of team member's & residents;

· Contributes to the development and creation of a safe work culture, leading by example in all aspects of health and safety;

· Ensures direct reports adhere to the OH&S Act and Regulations, all policies and

procedures and that personal protective equipment is worn;

· Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of department;

· Oversee orientation of all direct reports in all areas of health and safety, emergency preparedness and any departmental hazards;

· Participates in drills to prepare for emergencies and attends all education sessions in relation to emergency preparedness.

· Ensures that the General Manager is informed of all changes to care levels;

· Makes recommendations for changes in staffing levels in response to fluctuations in occupancy and care levels.

· Work in accordance with the organization's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act;

· Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Current registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario;

· · Minimum 3 years' experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation, long term care and/ or retirement living;

· Comprehensive technical knowledge is required on the aging process, psycho-social geriatric issues;

· Must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines as workload may fluctuate as admissions, resident needs and discharge;

· Must be committed to multi-disciplinary team-work and demonstrate an ability to work through collaboration, joint decision making and integrated strategies;

· Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Providing full care to male and female residents of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds, including but not limited to, personal hygiene;

· Some disruption of lifestyle resulting from extra hours spent dealing with prospective clients, attending meetings and dealing with residents and families and responding to emergencies;

· Stress resulting from constant interruptions, managing within legislative, budgetary and time constraints on a consistent basis and dealing with people who are under emotional pressure;

· Combination of natural light and fluorescent lighting;
