We're seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Sand Blaster to join our production facility in North Bay. In this role, you will be the foundation of our finishing department, ensuring all structural enclosures are professionally cleaned and profiled for coating. Note: This position is a completely on-site role based out of our facility in North Bay, ON. This is a key plant-level position with the opportunity for growth within our shop operations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Surface Preparation: Operate industrial sandblasting and abrasive blasting equipment to remove rust, scale, and contaminants from structural assemblies.
- Anchor Profile Management: Ensure metal surfaces achieve the correct "profile" or roughness required for specific paint and coating adhesion.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily checks and maintenance on blast pots, nozzles, hoses, and abrasive recovery systems.
- Safe Material Handling: Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move heavy structural enclosures into the blast booth and onward to the paint station.
- Quality Inspection: Visually inspect finished surfaces to ensure they meet SSPC (Society for Protective Coatings) or customer standards.
- Housekeeping & Safety: Maintain a clean work area, manage abrasive media disposal, and ensure all blast-specific PPE (helmets, respirators) is in top condition.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
- Industrial Experience: Previous experience with abrasive blasting or in a heavy manufacturing/fabrication environment.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfort working with high-pressure pneumatic equipment and various blast media (sand, grit, or steel shot).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding work in a blast booth environment while wearing full protective gear.
- Certifications: Valid Forklift and Overhead Crane certification is a significant asset.
- Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and committed to a "Safety First" culture every single day.
Salary: $ $30.00 per hour, commensurate with the candidate's experience and skill level.
