The Director of Quality, Risk and Corporate Performance (Director) works as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) to develop the organization's vision, mission, core values and strategic directions. The Director supports the enhancement and maintenance of service quality offered by Canopy to people in service, their caregivers, community partners, funders, and staff. The Director collaborates to build business strategies that ensure the agency meets multiple legislative requirements, as well as standards outlined by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), FOCUS Accreditation and sector specific standards. In collaboration with the Program Managers, implements internal and external communication and marketing strategy. The Director supports all fundraising initiatives, grant and proposal writing in collaboration with the Program Manager. The Director holds a high degree of responsibility within the legal context for risk management, service compliance and privacy. The Director oversees Central Navigation, Community Engagement, Fundraising, Quality Assurance and Specialized Services to ensure operations are within legislative and applicable mandates following best practices and providing quality service to all service users. The Director seeks to support Program Managers and their teams to do their best work through fulfilling their work plans as well as the agency operational plan and strategic direction.

Under the direction of the CEO, the Director of Quality, Risk and Corporate Performance (Director) key accountabilities include:

  • Foster a positive and respectful workplace and cooperative working relationships with the Senior Management Team, Managers, Leadership and Staff.
  • Cultivate relationships with partners and key stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  • Responsible for planning, designing, budgeting and implementation of programs and services within their scope of functions to support and achieve strategic and operational plan.
  • Development and review of staffing requirements.
  • Development of applicable agency policies related to legislative obligations.
  • Act, along with the Quality Assurance Advisor as one of the agency's Serious Occurrence Reporters for Residential Licensing Local Registration Authority (SOR-RL LRA) for MCCSS to authenticate staff access and administer SOR user accounts. Ensuring SORs are accurate and timely.
  • Act as Canopy's Lead Privacy Director and implement government standards in accordance with organizational records retention policies and legal requirements of Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
  • Development of Fundraising Budget with strategic targets created and collaborated with applicable stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to maximize event effectiveness and meet/exceed event goals.
  • Policy and Procedures development and collaboration for agency wide benefits with data base, FOCUS, Risk and Quality Improvement. Streamline Policy and Procedures that are Agency wide collaboration.
  • Lead the development of proposals, coordinating with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment with donor/funder requirements and the organization's strategic directions.
  • Act as the primary liaison between FOCUS and Canopy, and acts as the Lead for Accreditation preparation and maintenance. Maintain current knowledge of FOCUS Accreditation's domains, standards, processes, timelines and organizational contacts. Guide Canopy initiatives to remain in alignment with FOCUS standards.
  • Leads Canopy's involvement in the grant writing process, actively seeking out relevant grant opportunities and maximizing Canopy's alignment with the relevant grant criteria.
  • Support and advise Canopy staff regarding situations possibly leading to or resulting in an SOR. Document efforts and update CEO as applicable.
  • Responsible for planning, designing, budgeting and implementation of programs and services within their scope of functions to support and achieve strategic and operational plan.
  • Lead and inspire the change management process from initiation through to completion in collaboration with Senior Management Team, Program Managers and Leadership.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in business administration or a related field or equivalent experience and knowledge. Master or Specialization is an asset.
  • 8+ years of combined experience in the areas of Social Services and Adult Developmental Services.
  • 3+ years of Leadership or Managerial experience.
  • Experience using client data management systems.
  • Extensive working knowledge of 299/10 Quality Assurance Measures, Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Act, Child and Family Services Act, Accreditation and Privacy legislation.
  • Experience or exposure to risk management assessment, continuous quality improvement, policy and procedure development, communication strategies and change management.
  • Privacy Officer training or certificate in Information Privacy is considered an asset.
  • Experience in fundraising techniques, grant writing, budgeting, donor experience and project management.
  • Experience of working with adults with developmental disabilities is an asset.
  • Annual completion of a Criminal Background Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS).
  • NVCI / SMG Training
  • Valid G-Class driver's license for the Province of Ontario, access to reliable transportation and have valid proof of automobile insurance with driving for business purposes and a minimum liability of two million dollars.
