Clark Builders is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated HSE Co-op Student to work alongside our HSE Team, gaining hands-on exposure to both office and field environments while supporting on-site safety initiatives and the ongoing enhancement of the Clark Builders Safety and Loss Prevention Manual. This is a 4-month role assisting full-time at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Project and is based in Red Deer, Alberta, with some travel required, and will report to the Regional HSE Manager.

Reporting to: Regional HSE Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research Industry Best Practices and legislative requirements to develop Clark Builders Standards
  • Engage with field teams to understand how work is performed in the field and integrate those findings into the Standards
  • Perform formal and informal inspections at job sites
  • Have a working knowledge of Clark Builders Safety and Loss Prevention Manual
  • Assist with the investigation and documentation of safety incidents
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the Clark Builders Safety Management System

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with tight timelines
  • Excellent organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidential information
  • Able to influence and effectively communicate with others
  • Proficient computer skills 

Qualifications

  • Completion of first year of an OH&S Diploma
  • Class 5 Driver's License and reliable vehicle (asset)
  • Good understanding of workplace health principles, industry best practices, and health & safety legislation
  • First Aid and CSTS certifications (assets)
  • Previous construction experience, including knowledge of construction processes, tools, equipment, and rigging (asset)

This position is primarily based in Red Deer, Alberta and will support the Red Deer Regional Hospital Project.
