Coordinator of Supportive Housing

Reports To: Director of Penticton Operations
Term: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm with ½ hour paid break
Wage Range: $33.77 up to $38.77 based on education and related experience.

ASK Wellness Society is an Accredited, not-for-profit organization. We provide housing and support to those who are facing or at risk of homelessness and support those who may use substances, or who require mental health supports, harm reduction, or health education. Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Penticton Operations, the Coordinator of Burdock House will be expected to coordinate the activities of supportive housing within a multi-disciplinary team to provide housing support. In collaboration with the ASK Wellness Society Officers, Directors and Coordinators work to ensure standardization of systems, identification of efficiencies, integration of performance improvement strategies and client and employee satisfaction. Service delivery is based on a client centered, non-judgmental perspective.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Ensure provision of individualized support to participants in order to assist them in maintaining their  housing;

• In consultation with Operations and Financial teams, support accounts payables and receivables;

• Participate in Coordinated Access (CASH) meetings to ensure appropriate referrals and bed utilization;

• Ensure case-notes, statistics and operational information is noted and appropriately shared with the Society Officers, Directors and Coordinators, Property Services and Finance;

• In consultation with Director of Operations ensure program fee collection and manage vacancy loss;

• Oversee the completion of move in/move out paperwork as required by ASK Property Services Department;

• Organize schedules, workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks;

• Review electronic timesheets, expenses, and time off requests;

• Set goals for performance expectations in ways that comply with the Society's plans and vision and communicate them to employees;

• Work in collaboration with Human Resources to recruit, interview and train new employees;

• Monitor employee productivity, case notes, and provide constructive feedback and coaching;

• Report any staffing concerns or issues to the Director of Operations and Human Resources;

• Conduct regular meetings with all participants to ensure compliance with program agreement, vocational plan, and mental health and addictions wellness plan;

• Liaise with key community caregivers regarding necessary support systems for the clients including financial and life skills programming;

• Encourage and support Supportive Recovery Housing residents to enhance their personal recovery plan, by providing information, emotional/practical support and coaching when needed;

• Assist with the development and delivery of life skills to promote independent living including providing crisis intervention and/or referral to other community supports. This may include transporting clients to and from activities;

• When necessary, be trained to be the first to respond to an overdose situation with on-the-spot overdose response and support; work calmly and together with your team, paramedics, and police in crisis situations;

• Resource development and group facilitation;

• Work with your team to assist with meal service/preparation, and common area cleanliness;

• Ensure compliance with all Society supportive standards, policies, and procedures;

• Oversee completed documentation, statistics, and records in files and on the required database;

• Assist team with required verbal and written reports, case notes, letters, memoranda, and year end reports;

• Maintain files and documentation to the COA Standard;

• When needed, be a member of the COA's Performance and Quality Improvement team;

• Other duties which may or may not be outlined in this job description.

Qualifications and Suitability:


• Bachelor of Social Work and/or registration with the BC College of Social Workers is an asset;

• 3 years of mental health knowledge and understanding and/or experience is an asset;

• Ability to apply knowledge and experience in the areas of trauma, PTSD, residential school, colonial impact on Indigenous peoples;

• Ability to work as a team member in a case management setting involving multi-agency supports;

• Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries;

• Strong working knowledge of community resources;


• Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills;

•       Understanding of various social and political issues in the Indigenous Community;

• Must possess valid driver's license with relevant insurance to transport clients;

• As clients are allowed to have pets, it is noted that this is a pet friendly environment.
