Job Summary

Helping Hands Homecare Agency is looking to hire Home Support Workers located in or around the CBS area, to work with clients in their home, in CBS, St. John's and surrounding areas. The HSW will be responsible for various functions including, but not limited to, personal care, meal preparation, home management, medication administration, etc.

At least 1 year experience is preferred.

All applicants are required to have the following:

Updated Code of Conduct (Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check, from the RNC or RCMP), 2 Step TB skin test, medical form filled out and signed by a Doctor, Immunization Records, Updated Emergency First Aid, & 3 References from previous/current Employer(s) or supervisor(s), or a school Instructor/Professor.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
  • Administer medications following prescribed protocols and maintain accurate documentation
  • Prepare meals tailored to individual dietary needs and preferences
  • Support clients with activities of daily living
  • Provide companionship and emotional support
  • Perform light housekeeping duties including cleaning and maintaining a safe environment
  • Assist with medical appointments, case management tasks, and coordination with healthcare professionals
  • Monitor clients' health status and report any changes or concerns promptly
  • Support clients with dementia care, specialized assisted living requirements, etc.

Skills

  • Prior experience in nursing homes, home care, senior care, or working with people with disabilities is preferred
  • Knowledge of dementia care, medication administration, is a plus
  • Strong caregiving skills with a compassionate and patient-centered approach
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for mobility assistance or transfers
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and healthcare teams
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail
  • Basic cleaning skills to ensure a hygienic environment for clients
  • Familiarity with assisted living environments is a plus

Job Types: Full-time

Salary: $19.45 per hour

Hours: Up to 40 per week

Schedule:

  • Morning shifts/Day shifts/Evening shifts/Night shifts

  • Weekdays/Weekends

  • 12-hour shifts

  • On-call

  • Holidays
