 In THE Recreation Therapist role, you will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs that meet the needs of our residents while supporting their independence, dignity, and overall well-being. You will also manage the Volunteer Program and work closely with residents, family members, volunteers, and the Recreation Team to create an environment that fosters engagement, safety, and self-actualization.

As part of the Christenson Communities team, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors while working in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete Therapeutic Recreation Assessments for new and existing residents; involve families/POA as needed.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized and group recreation programs.

  • Educate staff, residents, and families on the benefits of recreation and the "7 Dimensions of Wellness."

  • Assist socially isolated residents with integration into community programs.

  • Lead and support Recreation Coordinators and volunteers; manage the Volunteer Program.

  • Track resident participation, maintain records, and communicate outcomes in care conferences.

  • Support health, safety, and budget management for the recreation department.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to resident-focused initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma/Degree in Recreation, Adapted Physical Education, or equivalent experience with seniors.

  • Active ATRA registration.

  • Minimum 1 year experience in recreation/activity programming, preferably with seniors, dementia, or palliative care.

  • First Aid/CPR and AFLCA Older Adult Certification are assets.

  • Compassionate, observant, and able to exercise good judgment.

  • Creative, motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 10kg.

  • Own and maintain a reliable, insured vehicle.
