POSITION OVERVIEW:The Homemaker/Companion is responsible for providing our community members with a welcoming and clean environment and providing personal assistance while supporting activities of daily living. Partnering with other Maggie Willier Wellness Centre departments utilizing all resources and a shared care model where applicable.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide high-quality and respectful and compassionate service to community members.
  • Provide standard service and assistance with basic and instrumental activities such as meal preparation, medication reminders, grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, and completing errands.
  • Provide psychosocial support to community members, especially those who are socially isolated.
  • Conducts wellness checks and collaborates with other healthcare team members.
  • Light duty cleaning, including, but not limited to: empty garbage containers and removing waste materials, service and clean washrooms, dust and polishing furniture, washing and polishing glass and windows, vacuum carpets, draperies, sweeping, wet mop, and scrubbing floors, making, and collecting soiled linens.
  • Maintain client records and inventory of supplies.
  • Assists in developing programs addressing community needs.
  • Fully comply with all Maggie Willer Wellness Centre & Driftpile Cree Nation policies, procedures, health safety, and PPE protocols - including the fitness for duty policy stipulating zero-tolerance for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum High School diploma, or GED and 1+ years of professional cleaning is considered an asset.
  • Certified in WHMIS and First Aid is considered an asset.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide companionship.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and have excellent time management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations people, values, and culture.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Valid class 4 driver's license, and valid class 5 driver's license, with clean driver abstract.
  • Fluency in Cree is considered an assist.
    A Criminal, Vulnerable and Child Intervention Record Check is required for this position.

Employment Term: Temporary

Duration: January 2026 to March 31, 2027
