School Head Custodian

Good Shepherd School, Peace River, Alberta

HFCRD is recruiting a Full Time Head Custodian starting January 19, July 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension, at Good Shepherd School in Peace River.

This position has a split-shift work schedule with the following hours: 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

The Head Custodian role is crucial in ensuring our school grounds are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained throughout the year. This role is vital in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors, ensuring that our school remains a cornerstone of the community. The Head Custodian reports to the School Principal and works closely with the Operations and Facilities Manager for support, direction, and coordination of custodial operations.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be conscientious, reliable, and have a consistent work ethic.
  • Have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Possess strong communication skills and professionalism.
  • Have a background or experience in custodial work.
  • Possess the ability to supervise staff and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Have the ability to work in a confidential and Christ-centered environment.

Responsibilities and areas of support:

  • Maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness and appearance of the school.
  • Perform daily custodial duties, cleaning routines, and seasonal deep cleaning.
  • Maintain safety standards as required by the Province of Alberta.
  • Perform small maintenance tasks and minor repairs as required.
  • Snow removal and ice control during the winter months.
  • Heavy lifting as part of daily job duties (e.g., moving furniture, equipment, supplies).
  • Floor care, including running an auto-scrubber, stripping/waxing floors, and routine maintenance of custodial equipment.
  • Supervise and support custodial assistants.
  • Plan, assign, and oversee cleaning tasks and daily routines.
  • Collaborate with the principal and Operations & Facilities Manager regarding building needs and issues.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the School Principal or Operations & Facilities Manager, consistent with custodial operations.

Compensation:

  • Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience - $44,762 - $64,447
