Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Coordinator, Substance Use Services within the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) and working as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Substance Use Clinician provides individual and group clinical response and psychotherapeutic services to adults with mental health and substance use issues. The Substance Use Clinician participates in planning and assessment of community resources and client needs, liaising with relevant community services, linking the Substance Use program with other service agencies and providing consultation and education on Substance Use services to other service providers and maintaining clinical records.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Masters of Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work. Must be eligible for registration with the board of Registration for Social Workers in British Columbia. Minimum of two (2) years of recent related experience working with adult clientele in a mental health and substance use facility/program or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience with crisis intervention, urgent response for clients in the community, individual treatment and group psychotherapy work. Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, Legislative Acts, and Mental Health & Substance use policy.

- Ability to provide a client-centered holistic approach to care.
- Ability to demonstrate sound professional judgment, empathy, tact and integrity.
- Proven assessment, care, planning and coordination skills.
- Ability to respect client's rights, values and preferences including multi-cultural issues.
