ASSISTANT PLANNER
(Replacement Temporary, Full-Time)

The West Vancouver Planning, Development and Environment Services Department has an opening for a replacement temporary, full-time Assistant Planner. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Community Planning & Sustainability, the Assistant Planner is responsible for supporting a range of planning projects related to land use, sustainability, housing, design, and other related topics and issues.

This position will be responsible for a variety of assignments including:

  • Performing research and technical work for a variety of projects;
  • Responding to public enquiries and participating in community engagement;
  • Conducting detailed planning analyses and investigations;
  • Assisting supervisors and more senior staff in the preparation of studies and materials;
  • Compiling data, performing calculations, and analyzing surveys;
  • Preparing narrative, statistical and illustrated reports;
  • Representing the department with presentations, at meetings, and on committees, and;
  • Performing other related duties as required.

The preferred candidate will possess: considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning and current literature, trends, and developments in the field; thorough knowledge of research techniques; the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data; thorough knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite; and the skills to effectively present results and conclusions in a variety of multimedia.

The preferred candidate will also possess the ability to: plan, organize and carry out projects independently and as part of a cross-functional team; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff; provide timely and effective customer service; and, communicate effective orally and in writing.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree, post-graduate degree, or other recognized diploma in planning in addition to professional work experience in urban planning; or an equivalent combination or education and experience.

The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check and a copy of their credentials.

Starting Rate Of Pay
$47.25 per hour

This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.
