Dental Hygiene Technologist

Cambrian College's Schools of Health and Wellness requires a Dental Hygiene Technologist on a regular part time basis. This positions require scheduling flexibility for both daytime and evening shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities- Oversee day-to-day client care sessions and collaborate with faculty to ensure clinical skills meet theory learning outcomes; ensure client and student safety.
- Perform demonstration of skills on typodonts and clients, model skills, safety, and professionalism during client care sessions
- Guide and advise students, determining the need for further consultation with the client, inter-professional collaboration with the client's medical doctor, the client's medical specialist, and/or the client's pharmacist.
- Monitor clinical progress and meet with students to review community client treatment plans; ensure students are fit to practice. Review and assist students with their bookings/schedules.
- Evaluate clinic charts, policies, and procedures, interpreting and analyzing complex and multi-faceted medical histories to determine client needs and safety requirements to proceed with treatment/care in clinic.
- Evaluate client treatment plans and conduct chart audits.
- clinic huddles with technologist, dentist and students on client care needs and priorities.
- Participate in and contribute to calibration meetings
- Provide email directions for upcoming clinical skills and client care sessions and demonstrations
- Model skills, clinic processes/procedures, student and client interactions, and standards of care to maintain in clinic based on accreditation entry to practice competencies.
- Collaborate with the lab technician to ensure all materials required for lab and clinic assignments are on-hand and that appropriate inventory levels are maintained
Required:
- Minimum of a three-year diploma/degree in Dental Hygiene, or equivalent. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
- Current registrant in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario and authorized to self-initiate.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a Dental Hygienist with recent clinical experience including ultrasonics, periodontics, infection prevention, digital radiography.
- Strong computer experience in Microsoft Office such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High degree of initiative, work-related flexibility, and creative problem-solving skills.
- The ability to advise and positively interact with students is important, as is the ability to work within a team environment.
Assets/Preferred:
- Certificate in Adult Education or one in process.
- Intimate knowledge of ABELDent software.
- Experience working within a postsecondary environment
