Food Security Project Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Mental Health, the successful candidate is responsible for managing and overseeing food security programs and initiatives under Eskasoni Mental Health.  The food security project coordinator will organize and manage in-community food security initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership to the grant funds and accountability and seek out opportunities for connections between the various food-related programs offered in the community and under the grant
  • Forms partnerships and works collaboratively with organizations, agencies, food producers/distributors within and outside of Eskasoni to bring additional food security (access, and skills and learning) opportunities to community members
  • Works collaboratively with the Eskasoni Community foodbank society to establish human-centered policies and procedures for client access that helps enhance dignity and choice of those residents who need to access it
  • Ensures a welcoming environment is offered to attendees of all programing under the CFN grant
  • Leads committee meetings with individuals involved in leading programming under the CFN grant
  • Oversees staff employed under the CFN grant/ social supermarket program area in connection with the food bank activities and collect reports from staff after every social supermarket opening time
  • Create a general framework for gathering input from clients attending various activities under the grant as well as partners on the grant.  Create and distribute tools used to gather input.  Collaborate responses on evaluation tools and write reports
  • Ensure reports are prepared and submitted on schedule outlined in the grant agreement
  • Work with President of the Our Eskasoni Community Foodbank Society in partnership with Feed NS regarding the data they require member agencies to collect on food bank clients through their Link2Feed system to ensure data can be shared with the CFN to enhance food related programing
  • Adhere to the policy and procedures of Eskasoni Mental Health Services / Eskasoni Health Centre and Eskasoni Band Administration
  • Comply with Eskasoni Mental Health Services / Eskasoni Health Centre privacy and confidentiality policies
  • Adhere to professional standards and demeanor and align work and behavior with Eskasoni Mental Health Services mission / Code of conduct
  • Attending regular staff meetings and training related to the smooth operation of Eskasoni Mental Health Services.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent education and experience
  • Previous experience working within the food (in)security sector
  • Knowledge and experience of Indigenous Communities, including an understanding of issues affecting Indigenous people
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals in the organization and in-community, and with federal and provincial representatives
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently completing priorities
  • Have proficient computer skills and an awareness of Microsoft Word / Google Sheets
  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Always maintain, the highest standards of confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to speak and/or understand Mi'kmaq is an asset
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License
  • Candidates must have a clear Police Vulnerable Sector and Sexual Abuse Registry record
  • Ability to function well under stressful conditions and multitask.
