The opportunity

We have a new opportunity for an Investment Analyst to join our Credit Funds team Based in Toronto, you will be a key part of the team focused on credit fund investments globally, playing a role in evaluating investment opportunities, executing transactions, and monitoring existing portfolio investments. Who you'll work with

The Credit team is a group of over forty professionals who invest across the full spectrum of credit products, employing a wide variety of investment styles including deep dive fundamental analysis, structured credit, thematic strategies, enhanced indexing, quantitative and systematic strategies, and fund investments.

The mandate of the group's Credit Funds business is to produce strong risk-adjusted returns by investing with external managers in various credit-related strategies globally, including private and public credit, structured finance, and special situations.

Reporting to a Director, you will help support the Credit Funds team's efforts across the investment lifecycle. As part of a dynamic Capital Markets environment, you will be exposed to the different strategies and risk-taking styles within the broader group through regular interactions.  You'll join a collaborative team where your ideas and perspectives are valued.
 

What you'll do

  • Support the due diligence of new managers and conduct research to support the evaluation of investment opportunities

  • Conduct investment analysis to drive meaningful insights and support decision-making based on data (e.g. public market equivalent analysis, manager performance vs. peer sets, beta and correlation analysis, portfolio cash flow modelling, fee modelling)

  • Support deal execution by preparing investment approval materials and other ad-hoc reports, presentations, analyses and projects

  • Build relationships with existing and prospective external credit managers by attending meetings, AGMs, and industry events

  • Facilitate interaction between our credit managers and other Ontario Teachers' investment teams regarding co-investments, market views, sharing of best practices

  • Accurately monitor and report on key drivers of risk/exposure and profit/loss across individual managers, strategies and the overall Credit Funds portfolio

  • Work with the Risk team to ensure the portfolio's risk is accurately measured and modelled

  • Take ownership for analytical dashboards and reporting

What you'll need

  • ~1 year of relevant work experience (including co-op / internships in pension plans, credit funds, asset managers, private equity funds, hedge funds, fund-of-funds, investment banks, transaction advisory); experience in fund investments is advantageous

  • Undergraduate/post-graduate degree in finance or a related technical discipline (economics, business, engineering, math, computer science

  • Strong understanding of fundamental financial, investment and valuation concepts (basic financial accounting, capital structure, valuation methodologies); knowledge of credit instruments and related investment strategies is advantageous

  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth analysis/financial modelling

  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Bloomberg is an asset

  • Preference given to those with strong quantitative and programming skills (Python, VBA, SQL, Matlab, C, or C++)

  • Strong communication skills and a keen ability to convey technical information visually

  • Strong work ethic with an ability to balance priorities, work independently, and meet tight timelines with limited supervision

  • High commitment to being a team player with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
