Job Description

ECM, a Newfoundland-based company, is seeking talented team members for an exciting hard rock open-pit project near St. Lawrence, NL.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Operate Caterpillar MD6200, Epiroc SmartROC T45, or similar surface drilling rigs
• Understand the mechanics and operation of top hammer and DTH equipment
• Drill blast holes to the required depth, angle, collar, and pattern layout based on the drill & blast plan
• Comply with all company, client, and regulatory safety policies and procedures
• Recognize equipment limitations and operate within safe performance parameters
• Log hole data for each pattern, including depths, conditions, deviations, and issues
• Change bits, hammers, steels, and consumables; assist with minor troubleshooting and maintenance
• Support pattern QA/QC—verifying hole depths, collar locations, ground conditions, and hole cleanliness
• Maintain an organized work area and stay alert to pit traffic and changing ground conditions
• Communicate effectively with Supervision, Survey, Blasting, and Operations
• Follow all safety procedures, including isolation/LOTO, environmental requirements, and operational standards
• Work independently with minimal supervision

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Minimum one year experience as a blast hole drill operator (CAT, Epiroc, or similar), or strong heavy-equipment experience (dozer, excavator, loader, haul truck)
• Understanding of drill patterns and how they are developed
• Experience with drill technology and guidance systems
• Familiarity with rotary and/or DTH drilling; SmartROC T-series or MD6200 experience is an asset
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on uneven terrain
• Ability to work 12-hour rotating day/night shifts in all weather conditions
• Strong situational awareness, safety focus, and radio communication skills
• Ability to remain focused and productive while working independently
• Positive attitude, reliability, and teamwork mindset
• Valid driver's license and driver's abstract
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
