The Opportunity in Short
We are excited to be adding a new Regional Branch Manager (Prairies) to join the Portage Mutual team. Reporting to the Vice-President Underwriting and Business Development, the Regional Branch Manager is a key leadership role responsible for driving the long-term success, compliance, and cultural transformation of the Prairies region. This role is accountable for operational excellence, financial performance, and strategic alignment with company objectives, while championing a unified culture that fosters collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation across all departments and teams within the region. This is an in-office role, where the Regional Branch Manager will split their time between the Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie offices, ensuring consistent leadership presence, engagement, and oversight.

Location
: Manitoba – this is an "in-office" position that splits time between the Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie offices.

Salary Range:
$140,000-$165,000 CAD per year

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role and level. The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

Major Responsibilities Of The Regional Branch Manager

  • Regional Strategy and Transformation: The Regional Branch Manager will lead the development and execution of regional strategies aligned with national objectives to drive sustainable growth. They will promote a unified organizational culture by breaking down silos and fostering cross-functional collaboration, while serving as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, providing insights that inform company-wide initiatives.
  • Operations, Risk & Compliance and Financial Excellence: The Regional Branch Manager is integral to driving operational efficiency and financial performance and collaborating with senior leaders and direct reports to set and achieve ambitious KPIs. They will oversee regional budgets, risk profiles, underwriting accounts, and broker relationships to support strategic and financial objectives. The Regional Branch Manager serves as the regional liaison to provincial regulators, ensuring effective representation and regulatory adherence. They ensure underwriting activities align with corporate risk appetite, underwriting policies, and reinsurance agreements to maintain a balanced risk portfolio.
  • Leadership and Team Engagement: The successful Regional Branch Manager will be a skilled and experienced leader who will, through their balanced and visible leadership presence across both Manitoba branches (Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie) will build and empower high-performing, agile teams that embrace change and continuous improvement.

Experience And Education
What You Will Bring (Required Qualifications)

  • Post-secondary degree in business, commerce, management or a related discipline.

Industry designations required (e.g., CIP, FCIP, CRM)

  • Training in leadership, organizational change or strategic planning would be an asset
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience, including at least three years in a senior leadership role managing large teams.

  • Broad understanding of multiple business functions such as underwriting, claims, risk management, HR, finance, marketing, and sales.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through complex projects, regulatory or industry changes, and technology or process transformation.

  • Experience promoting cross-functional alignment and supporting a unified organizational culture.

  • Skilled in collaborating with union representatives to support positive employee relations, resolve issues constructively, and maintain a respectful and compliant workplace.
  • Experience implementing organizational or operational changes while ensuring alignment with collective agreement provisions and workplace stability.
  • Deep knowledge of compliance, risk management, and regulatory standards, including Health & Safety and AODA requirements.
  • Strong strategic thinking and future planning capabilities, including the ability to anticipate industry trends and align regional objectives with corporate strategy.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes early and take proactive action.
  • Financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, financial reporting, and operational performance metrics.
  • Ability to foster cross-functional collaboration, break down silos, and drive engagement across underwriting, claims, loss prevention, marketing, and other functions.
  • Demonstrated strength in leading teams through organizational and regulatory change, process improvement, and technology adoption.
