The Carpet and Flooring Technician plays a key role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of our residential units. This position is responsible for installing, repairing, and replacing carpet, vinyl, laminate, and other flooring materials across our portfolio of properties. The role involves working independently as well as part of the broader maintenance team. Completing general maintenance duties would be required as well as part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install carpet, vinyl plank, laminate, linoleum, and tile flooring in residential units and common areas.
  • Perform flooring repairs, patching, seam repairs, stretching, and re-stretching of existing carpet.
  • Remove and dispose of old flooring materials according to company policies.
  • Assess flooring conditions and provide recommendations for replacement or repair.
  • Ensure installations meet company quality standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment during and after each job.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Coordinator team to schedule work.
  • Assist with additional maintenance duties when required (e.g., minor repairs, unit turnovers)

Qualifications

  • Valid Manitoba driver's license is required.
  • Clear Criminal Record is required.
  • Proven previous experience as a flooring installer, carpet layer, or similar trade role.
  • Strong knowledge of carpet installation techniques (glue-down, stretch-in, transitions, seams)
  • Experience installing vinyl plank, laminate, or sheet flooring.
  • Ability to measure, cut, and install flooring with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and use installation tools safely.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and WHMIS
  • Experience completing general residential properties maintenance duties.
  • Certification in flooring installation or related trade is an asset.
  • Experience working in property management or residential rentals is an asset.
