Term of Employment: Up to 200 days in a 12-month period
Employee Group: Union - CUPE  
Rate of Pay: $27.46 per hour, plus $1.85 shift premium and overtime rates where applicable.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisors, the Outdoor Operations Casual Labourer is part of a team dedicated to ensuring excellent operational and customer service experiences. This role supports full-time staff in various maintenance and operational tasks across public spaces, facilities, and events. Candidates must be available for a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, and must provide their own safety boots.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist full-time staff with daily maintenance tasks, including:
    • Grass cutting, weeding, watering, floral displays, trimming, and painting
    • Sport fields, trails, splash pads, forestry, and sanitation maintenance
    • Garbage collection, litter control, and encampment cleanups
    • Street and sidewalk sweeping
    • General dusting, cleaning, and washing
    • Building cleanliness and sanitation (lobbies, washrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, dressing rooms, spectator areas, and facility perimeters)
  • Perform manual labor tasks such as:
    • Shoveling and placing asphalt, sand sidewalks, and clearing debris
    • Installing and cleaning culverts, as well as maintaining open ditches
    • Operating hand tools and small equipment as required
  • Assist with the setup, servicing, and takedown of various community events
  • Actively participate in a team environment and maintain a positive attitude
  • Report vandalism, maintenance/public concerns, mechanical difficulties, or equipment/property damage
  • Complete daily logs and timesheets
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and safety requirements
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class G Driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and perform physical labor
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Traffic Control Training (Book 7)
  • Certifications in first aid, elevated lifting devices, workplace safety, chainsaw operation, and brush chipping
  • Training or coursework in horticulture, turf management, forestry, arboriculture, or heavy equipment operation
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of experience in parks, construction, landscaping, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience operating a variety of tools and equipment
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, pulling, raking, and shoveling
  • Experience interacting with the public for assistance and inquiries
