Position Summary

The Integrated Infrastructure Services area of Edmonton Public Schools requires full-time Carpenters to assist with maintenance and repairs, as well as multi-trade projects and renovations in Division schools.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • installing doors, windows, flooring, drywall and insulation as well as interior systems such as metal studs, and suspended ceilings
  • completing exterior and interior finishing work such as cabinets, handrails, paneling, molding and ceiling tiles
  • repairing and remodeling existing structures of all kinds
  • assembling, repairing and refinishing wooden furniture and fixtures
  • installing technology such as projectors and Smart TVs

Education/Qualifications

  • valid Alberta journeyperson carpenter and/or cabinet maker certification or recognized equivalent (Red Seal)
  • valid Alberta driver's license

Skills and Abilities

  • experience with installation of doors, windows and related hardware, interior systems (such as metal studs, drywall, suspended ceilings), technology including projectors and TVs, and millwork
  • finishing carpentry skills
  • must have the ability to: work at heights for extended periods (ladders, scaffolding, manlifts); work overhead for extended periods; work for extended periods in tight or confined spaces; complete tasks that involve consistent bending, lifting and kneeling; lifting up to approximately 32 kg
  • good problem solving, organizational, time management, and record keeping skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • computer literacy; including but not limited to attending virtual meetings, checking and responding to emails, submitting paperwork electronically, referencing electronic files
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team

Rate of Pay

$42.07 per hour

Advance on Expenses (vehicle allowance): $450.80 biweekly

Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM; shift work may be required.

The successful applicant:

  • must be prepared to use their personal vehicle to travel to Division schools, suppliers, other buildings as required while carrying tools, equipment, and materials
  • must provide all trade related hand tools. Power tools will be provided
  • must participate in committee work as required
  • must satisfactorily complete required OHS training, OHS procedures, and professional learning
