Crystal Kids Youth Centre has an opening for a Boys Critical Mentor. The wage is $18-$20 per hour and is based on a 36 - 40 hour work week. The hours typically are Noon to 8:00pm but some shifts may start later/earlier and end later/earlier; some weekend work may be required. Ideal candidates can balance these shifts with their family life and lifestyle.  We are seeking a very skilled professional with experience and education in the human services sector, specifically: Child and Youth Care diploma or Degree, Social Work Diploma or Degree, Corrections Diploma, Phys Ed Degree, Crisis Intervention workers, Mental Health and Addictions workers.  We are not seeking HR or Personnel Workers, daycare workers, IT techs, Call centre, retail workers, or other sales professionals.  Read about us and see if you are a natural fit for this Boys Critical Mentor position If you think this is you, apply with Resume as directed. Please Do not apply in person or by telephone. Who We Are: Crystal Kids was founded in 1992 and has been a registered charity with CRA since April 1993. Located in the Edmonton inner-city, serving hundreds of at-risk and disadvantaged children. The significant majority of whom are Indigenous youth. Through relational care, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction our best practice service delivery model provides critical mentoring, literacy interventions, life skills competencies, and wellness support. We also provide nutritional support and food security, which are the most pressing needs of our children. We are engaged in wellness support by assisting and mentoring youth navigating life with extensive history of generational poverty, physical and mental health challenges, and the resulting and layered trauma of complex and significant prolonged adversity. We mentor and support youth in building capacity through their marginalized lived experience. This below-poverty-line reality includes: hunger, absence of healthy adult modelling/supervision, instability at home and family violence, homelessness in all its manifestations(couch surfing, lack of permanent address/ transience/ living on the street without a housing structure/ living in tent cities / homeless shelter surfing etc, disassociation from school/academics, LGBTQ+ advocacy, justice/legal matters, racism and bullying, sexual health issues, human trafficking, off-reserve cultural identity gaps for indigenous families, lack of supports and resources for newcomer families, the lure of drugs and alcohol as a means of self-medicating, and other methods of survival for our street-entrenched youth.  The Ideal Candidate Qualifies With:A diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Corrections, or Physical Education. Equivalences considered.Minimum 1 year of experience in a youth-client ages 6–18 setting (Youth Centre, Group Care Milieu).Impressive conflict management and crisis intervention skills.Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy.Knowledgeable of community resources.High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.Excellent planning and organization skills to meet deadlines.Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.Highly motivated and compassionate.Proficiency in written and spoken English.CPR First Aid Intermediate Level C with AED.As Part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team of Critical Mentors, the Candidate Will Be a Role Model Who Will:Practice relational care, trauma-informed care, and support our harm reduction best practices.Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to male clients ages 6–19.Build capacity, self-reliance, and assist youth with coping strategies and managing stress.Mentor and coach life skills.Assist youth in self-regulating emotions, behaviours, and conflict resolution.Mentor and demonstrate healthy communication.Mentor and demonstrate healthy relationships, influencing how they engage, develop, and sustain healthy relationships with staff, peers, teachers, family, and other significant adults.Provide literacy and numeracy support.Assess and help youth self-assess their individual needs.Create and implement program plans, behaviour plans, and safety plans.Engage youth in a variety of activities that include, but are not limited to, literacy, games, art, culture, and athletics, with a focus on sportsmanship.Be comfortable in our commercial kitchen and, on rotation, prepare meals for up to 80 individuals.
