**Summary**:The Research Scientist supports and provides technical expertise in the development of new products and technology. The Research Scientist will receive guidance from and execute tasks assigned by the Director of Technology and, periodically, the Lab Manager to support these activities.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations, ER&D and sales/operations.
- Carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
- Plan & execute research & development projects both dependently and independently, by setting up a time and milestone plans.
- Participate in regular research and development discussions with fellow team members.
- Constructing, maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, for example, centrifuges, titrators, pipetting machines and pH meters, rheometers, flow loops, etc.
- Mentor less experienced staff in advanced chemistry, laboratory techniques and project management.
- Generate reports (Word, Excel) and perform mathematical and chemistry-related calculations for the preparation of development material.
- Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks.
- Promotes a culture that reflects the organization's values, encourages good performance, and rewards productivity.
- Assists in developing process manufacturing procedures approved by the Director of Operations and/or Director of Technology.
- Lead and coordinate the filing of patents as an outcome of dedicated research & development projects.
- Conduct presentations to peers and professional societies, assisting in technical writing of papers and articles.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Sales team to generate necessary testing data for presentation in marketing materials or technical reports.
- Participate or lead client presentations to review and present technical data or reports.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to use technical equipment with accuracy;
- Ability to maintain and calibrate technical equipment;
- Time management skills in order to work on several different projects at the same time;
- Flexibility in order to work with and provide support for a number of people and departments;
- Excellent communication skills in order to work effectively with colleagues from all parts of the organization and to explain complex techniques to interested, potentially laymen parties;
- Experience in providing demonstrations and writing technical reports;
- Teamwork skills and patience;
- Attention to detail.

**Experience/Education**
- 5+ years of experience in a chemical laboratory environment.
- B.Sc. or Master's Degree.
- Experience in a petroleum or oilfield services laboratory is preferred. Formulation experience is a must.

**Working Conditions**
- Minimal travel required for this role.
- Ability to lift up to 10kg.
- Ability to work in an office and laboratory environment.
