**PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Working with asylum seekers to assess their needs and resources.
- Assisting asylum seekers by connecting them with shelters, food banks, social development programs, legal assistance, tax clinic, and health clinics
- Referring clients for crisis counseling, school registration, pre-employment sessions, and English classes.
- Completing reports and attending meetings as required by MAGMA.
- Coordinating access to clothing, food, and transportation for key appointments through donations and community resources.
- Representing the organization in the community when required and maintaining healthy relationships with other helping organizations and the community.
- Occasionally resolving client issues directly at their homes when necessary.

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post-secondary education in social work or a related human services field is an asset.
- Fluent in English & Spanish. Additional languages like French and Arabic are a strong asset.
- Experience counselling clients or other helping capacity.
- Knowledge and experience with life skills education and coaching.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, lead and evaluate group or individual trainings and workshops
- Knowledge and experience in maintaining confidentiality, appropriate boundaries, and other basic counselling ethics.
- Knowledge of community resources for youth and families.
- Have strong proficiency using technology, including Teams, Zoom, etc.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the clients' needs.

**MAGMA COMMUNITY DUTIES**

**Event Participation**: As a multicultural agency which networks extensively with other organizations and community stakeholders, as well as hosting a wide variety of events, MAGMA community members are asked to be flexible in participating in events, which, from time to time, take place outside of regular work hours.

**Administration**: As a government-funded organization we are required to report in detail on our activities. Team members may be required to submit a variety of regular reports on the fulfilment of their role requirements.
