We’re the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), the voice of Alberta hotels. We are the funded safety association for hotels & convention centres in the province. We bring together Alberta hotels to help our members prosper. We’ve been around for over a century, and a large part of our success comes down to our service-oriented, collaborative, and innovative team.

Our advocacy work protects and promotes the interests of our members with regard to legislation, policy, and regulations that affect Alberta’s tourism and hospitality industry. Our cost savings programs provide add value to members and improve the quality of hotel operations. Our health & safety programming provides current and relevant training and resources for the industry as a whole.

**Workforce Specialist**

The Workforce Specialist works with Alberta hotels to provide tools, resources, and expertise to build a sustainable workforce for Alberta hotels and cultivate sources of labour for our members. You are a seasoned professional who enjoys building strong relationships and connecting with people. You are galvanizing, bringing energy and movement to every project. The Workforce Specialist has strong research, project management, and organizational skills to stay up to date on latest trends and AHLA programs. You are an experienced facilitator who is adept at listening to the needs of hotel employers, identifying gaps, and helping them to create a healthy and safe workplace. The Workforce Specialist provides services, resources and training to member hotels and coordinates access to sources of labour. The Workforce Specialist plays a key role in the delivery of the AHLA’s new Employer of Choice designation.

**Responsibilities**:

- Supports the Director of HR & Safety Services and other team members to develop, implement, and evaluate the Employer of Choice designation to fulfil the AHLA’s labour strategy, mission, and targets
- Connects to, builds, and maintains rapport with the AHLA’s members to assess workforce needs and facilitate access to sources of labour
- Actively seeks out new relationships, evaluates and develops partnerships to identify and cultivate sources of labour for Alberta hotels
- Stays current on AHLA programs to inform and educate our members
- Provides relevant and up-to-date information to help AHLA members to discover new pools of skilled talent in demographics they may not have considered
- Researches and shares information on current and future labour market and workforce trends with AHLA members
- Represents the AHLA and the hotel industry at various stakeholder/partner meetings
- Strategically coordinates member hotel participation in industry functions, such as trade shows, job fairs and presentations
- Ensures employer data is accurately entered and managed within the AHLA’s Association Management System
- Promotes available AHLA training opportunities to members to identify their training needs and requirements
- Handles logistics of organizing training sessions and gathers feedback from AHLA members to continually refine and improve training

**Skills**:

- Ability to discern priorities to effectively manage multiple projects with deliverables to key stakeholders
- Strong ability to effectively connect and build rapport with decision makers
- Familiar with using CRM and learning management systems to manage data, manipulating and analyzing data to support strategic decision making
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail
- Ability to synthesize data, identify trends and suggest action plans to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities
- A self-starter with the ability to identify problems and present solutions

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, business administration, human resources or related
- Experience working as a workforce specialist/ human resources coordinator or similar
- Experience working in the accommodation or tourism industry is desirable
- Experience directly interfacing with clients, members, or vendors
- Excellent communicator and relationship builder
- Strong proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Experience managing ongoing projects and adhering to timelines
