**Your Opportunity**
- Under the limited supervision of the Director, International Education, this position advises enrolled international students on immigration issues and acts as a resource person for the International Education Advisors and International Education department staff. The Immigration Advisor recommends changes to procedures and policies as required to facilitate international student integration into OC; ensures that appropriate standards and services are developed and applied to international students; assists international students with their understanding of the Canadian educational system.**Functions and Duties**
- 1. Provides individual, confidential advising and support for international students regarding academic, administrative, and personal matters in relation to immigration
- 2. Provides guidance and acts as a resource person to international students with regard to federal and provincial immigration policies and procedures
- 3. Assists students with the resolution of problems related to their immigration documents, to the extent permitted by the level of certification obtained
- 4. Refers students to other professionals and ensures follow-up with immigration authorities, as needed
- 5. Disseminates current immigration information to relevant OC colleagues
- 6. Keeps abreast of changes in immigration regulations and policies and remains in good standing with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council
- 7. Maintains confidential advising records/databases and provides statistical reports on service delivery as required
- 8. Keeps abreast of best practices in international student advising, immigration advising, and retention as well as best practices in academic advising
- 9. Monitors global events that may have an impact on OC international students and families
- 10. Develops and facilitates immigration related presentations
- 11. Participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution
- 12. Perform other related duties as required**Education and Experience**
- Graduation from a four year university program in a related area.
- Current licensing as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA). Registered, and in good standing with the ICCRC.
- At least two years of related experience working with international students in Canada or in an international context. At least one year of experience providing immigration advising to international students in Canada.
- Preferred:
- Experience working with international students in a post-secondary educational institution in Canada.
- Proficiency in a language other than English.
- Experience living and/or working overseas.**Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge of immigration advising at the developmental and post-secondary levels.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and able to manage a high work volume and competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Must be able to work effectively both independently with minimum supervision and as part of a team with an aptitude for working in a collegial and collaborative environment
- Ability to be innovative in the design, development and implementation of existing and new methods of information delivery
- Experience presenting and facilitating educational workshops.
- Excellent research skills with ability to synthesize data/information and develop/deliver findings and recommendations
- Must be able to deal with people in a calm, tactful, efficient and effective manner that projects a polished, professional and helpful image
- Must have exceptional customer service skills
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office, Banner and other complex databases
