Production Supervisor

**PURPOSE**: Oversees and directs the activities of administration, detailing, and shop production safely and efficiently to achieve the desired quality and quantity of work under the direction of the Area Manager for the Dartmouth Branch. The Production supervisor's role will be to support existing supervision, including Placing, and lead them and their departments to a new level of collaboration and performance. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Demonstrate conduct consistent with Nucor Rebar Fabrication's vision and values. - Lead and promote safety culture within the Branch and within Nucor Rebar Fabrication, including demonstrating concern for personal safety and exemplifying the "Safety First" culture. Understand and ensure effective implementation of all applicable safety rules, regulations, procedures, and guidelines to achieve the company goal of zero injuries. - Lead and promote Nucor Rebar Fabrication's vision and Values, including safety philosophy, customer focus, treating others with respect, inspiring trust in others, and fostering open and honest communication. - Ensure effective implementation of all other Nucor Rebar Fabrication policies and directives relevant to shop and detailing operations. - Direct supervisors/foremen regarding safety, production volume, cost, quality, and meeting production schedules and delivery dates. - Manage the workforce levels of all shop-related personnel and oversee the scheduling of their work hours, including managing overtime hours, so that customer needs are met and costs are managed effectively. - Oversees the hiring, training, motivation, evaluation and work of all detailing, shop and Nucor Rebar administration personnel so that all employees perform effectively and efficiently. Supervise shop and detailing supervisors. - Coordinate plant inventory at levels established by the Area Manager and order reinforcing steel as needed so that customer needs can be met within established inventory goals. - Assure that machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production. Oversee the proper authorization and purchase of needed replacement parts and recommend management of any capital expenditures so that the shop can operate with the most up-to-date and efficient plant and equipment possible. - Oversee preventative maintenance program. - Provide Area manager with appropriate operating data so that accurate costs can be maintained, and efficiency can be improved. - Maintain good employee relations and adherence to company policy; take proper and judicious disciplinary measures when required. Implement, in coordination with the Area Manager, all Nucor Rebar Fabrication policies and practices for all shop personnel so that all teammates know what is expected of them and, in turn, what they can expect from their employer. - Ensure the efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the Branch. - Establish accountability and goals for performance evaluation, complete personal development plans for supervisor direct reports, and guide the foreman to do the same. - Ensure that appropriate corporate controls and policies are implemented and adhered to. (For example, support Nucor Rebar Fabrication bold statements, redline initiatives, and safety expectations. - Act as "landlord" for the location so that an adequate work environment and necessary support services are provided. - Be mentored on commercial and business of branch operations by both the manager and the District Sales Manager. - Learn MIS and Navision management systems. - Learn bid and contract language for the execution of our reinforcing work. 20. Perform other duties as required by the Area Manager MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - Five to eight years of reinforcing steel fabrication or field-related experience, with at least three years experience as a supervisor. - Demonstrated knowledge of OH&S Industrial Safety Standards - Knowledge of related business, labour relations and industrial regulations and standards - Experience implementing continuous improvement and/or related project management experience in implementing improvements - Ability to work as a team leader/member on projects and an aptitude for problem solving - Organized and detail-oriented - Able to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities - Effective verbal and communication skills SPECIAL DEMANDS - Respond to urgent issues that arise at plant or field locations - Work in a noisy manufacturing environment with known hazards - Must maintain confidentiality of personnel records and sensitive business information **BENEFITS**: - Full employer paid benefits plan - RRSP plan with company match - Stock purchase program with company match - Scholarship opportunities
