**Role Summary**

Reporting to the Department Head of Maintenance and Utilities, the Automation Specialist will focus on equipment reliability improvement, equipment optimization, maintenance process improvement, training, medium CAPEX projects which may include new equipment installation, major modification/upgrade to existing equipment.

**Accountabilities**:

- Provide leadership support and direction to the maintenance groups to optimize their effectiveness, efficiency, and results while ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Work in partnership with other departments and divisions to ensure timely and effective product delivery.
- Provide technical expertise in all areas of maintenance and engineering with a focus on electrical and controls systems including PLC programming.
- Provide coaching, direction, and technical knowledge transfer to maintenance Electricians and Millwrights.
- Conduct the preparation of technical specifications for new and replacement equipment.
- Provide support to the maintenance department for the effective planning and scheduling of maintenance activities through the review of preventative maintenance routines.
- Troubleshoot production and quality issues in conjunction with maintenance and operating personnel.
- Ensure that maintenance and quality standards are maintained at or above industry standards and follow good manufacturing practices.
- Ensure compliance with established standards for health & safety and the environment.
- Support the delivery of maintenance variable and fixed costs to budget and cost reduction targets.
- Responsible for the execution of assigned projects to deliver improvements to the business within defined budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
- Support maintenance activities for all production equipment and facilities in a cost-effective manner to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and life of the equipment.
- Identification of packaging and maintenance opportunities, both operational and equipment based to improve safety, quality, and cost performance.
- Develop and implement procedures, directives, standards, and bulletins relating to improving operational reliability, quality, and efficiency.
- Conduct the preparation of inspection and maintenance procedures and standards.
- Deal with suppliers, manufacturers, and government agencies on technical, commercial, and regulatory issues.
- Implementation of best maintenance practices across the Operations function
- Responsible for adherence to central stores parts management systems
- Maintains electrical documentation and current controls programming off plant equipment.
- Perform duties and assignments as required by the senior management team.

**Education & Qualifications**:

- Engineering Degree or Diploma, Controls, Electrician or Industrial
- 2+ years related maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
- 2+ years’ experience with PLC programming & networking
- Knowledge of communication networks and electronic schematic interpretation.
- Project management for installations and modifications (contractors and internal).
- Experience in design/architecture review.
- Preferred background in food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods.
- Strong interpersonal skills for cross-boundary collaboration.
- Expertise in safety and regulatory compliance.
- Effective in managing multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
- Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and results-driven mindset.
