Position Description

Vantage is looking for a Design Manager, NA (North America), to be part of the Design Engineering team. This position will facilitate the management of all aspects of design from site selection to project completion. In this role, you will be supported by skilled engineers focused on data center critical infrastructure systems and will be accountable for active projects within your region. Your responsibilities will include ensuring Owner and Customer compliant design requirements, management of design consultants and RFI/Submittal responses, and ultimately support the Construction team to reduce project schedule and cost.

You will also be the point of contact for various department leaders involved in the project cycle (New Site Development, BIM Management, Design Engineering and Automation, Construction, Security, IT, and Operations). Regular collaboration and coordination are required with project assigned SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) in the region and the Innovation Engineering team, to ensure consistency of product implementation.

Essential Job Functions
- Manage the design cycles of assigned projects
- Direct and document gating requirements, especially transitioning Project teams.
- Develop and lead updates to the design standards and specifications for consistency and maximum system reliability
- Research and lead the selection of local and global partners for the development of the designs from early inception (test-fit) to final execution design documentation (project completion)
- Management of external design teams, including contractual support and negotiation
- Evaluate external Design Consultant’s performance and prepare QBRs (Quarterly Business Reviews)
- Lead technical meetings, providing support to the Project team
- Report every week to the Vantage leadership on design progress, blockers, risks, and assignment of priorities
- Oversee review process of engineering studies of all disciplines
- Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings

Duties
- Conduct weekly meetings with project teams to provide feedback and assist in addressing concerns and removing roadblocks
- Enforce and pursue coordination between internal engineering teams across all disciplines to ensure products delivered to Operations are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions
- Work with other managers in cross-functional efforts
- Provide mission-critical system review to the data center facility operation teams
- Support the Construction team
- Provide and review detailed workflows for change management activities
- Travel to data center sites for building relationships with development, construction, and Vantage partners as required
- Respond on an as-needed basis to data center related emergencies
- Engage with corporate user groups and stakeholders
- Engage with the other internal management teams
- Attend ALL required project design team meetings and interface with various team members
- Participate and contribute to product development process with Innovative Engineering
- Project coordination and commissioning support
- Additional duties may be assigned by executive management

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Environmental Design or Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field, from an accredited university or college
- 5+ years of experience in data center engineering management or equivalent managerial positions required; 7 years preferred
- Accredited engineering credentials preferred
- Data Center experience is required
- Experience in the region’s construction market is preferred
- Understanding of Revit, BIM, and Navisworks environments
- Working knowledge of critical cooling infrastructure and critical power infrastructure within a data center project
- Working knowledge of building and fire codes ordinances
- National and international travel required is expected to be less than 20% but may increase over time as the business evolves
