**Purpose of the Quality Technician role**:
- Model quality and excellence in everything you do to show production staff what good looks like
- Assist in the maintenance and improvement of our QMS
- Partner with the production staff to drive the continuous improvement of our processes and QMS
- Provide ground-level analysis of potential risks to product quality and safety and recommend controls and benchmarks to eliminate risk
- Defend product quality and safety at every step of the production process to ensure we deliver on our quality goals
**Responsibilities**:
- Maintain high quality documentation in accordance with applicable guidelines and internal Standard Operating Procedures
- Able to verify daily records filled by operation staff and getting them corrected in timely manner
- Perform receiving of raw materials, supplies, equipment, packaging components, and check documentation prior to shipping finished products (Chain of Custody, manifest)
- Assist in training production staff on company procedures before they begin work
- Perform QA checks at critical control points (e.g., sanitation, physical product quality checks, label checks, shipment checks etc.)
- Perform special projects on product problem solving and manufacturing process improvements as needed
- Investigate customer and consumer quality complaints and assess risk
- Initiate Deviation Reports and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) reports as needed
- Assist in updating methods and procedures (SOPs) related to production, pest control, building, equipment, packaging, labeling and storage and distribution of cannabis
- Assist in the investigation of out-of-specification test results
- Ensure that all testing is conducted in a timely fashion and according to approved procedures. (E.g., Moisture Analysis, ATP testing for sanitation, environmental control swab/testing)
- Collect quality data throughout the production process and ensure data integrity within our quality database
- Liaise with the Maintenance Department regarding equipment management (approval prior to purchase, preventive maintenance, calibration, etc.)
- Monitor use and inventories of QA related materials, chemicals and supplies, maintaining appropriate levels
- Assist the QA Specialists in collating all batch related documentation for QA Manager and QAP review and approval prior to sale
**Required Skills**:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment and on your feet for your entire shift
- Willingness to work in hot, humid conditions as well as cold conditions, if required
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Have a good attendance and safety record
- High degree of flexibility and adaptability to take up additional duties and cross train
- Attention to detail is required, any experience managing data would be considered an asset
- Comfortable working under close supervision, as well as no supervision
- Previous experience with HACCP and pre-requisite programs is an asset
- 1-2 years of experience in a quality position within the food, pharmaceutical, natural health products, nutraceutical or cannabis industries
- Flexibility to work variable shift sometimes as early as 6:00 am and as late as 12:00 am
- Experience and or knowledge with one or more of the following regulations: Cannabis Regulations and the Food and Drug Act (FDA); Food and Drug Regulations; Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); as well as Pest Control Products Act (PCPA) and the Fertilizers Act is an asset.
- Experience in any quality-controlled environment is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven analytical & creative thinking, and adept at solving problems
